  1. I don't want to turn this into a guessing quiz, but no, it's not Keith Hernandez, if that's what you're thinking. It's someone much less prominent.
  2. Today is a full breather for us. Not only are the Mets off, but so are the Braves, Diamondbacks, and Padres. This weekend's series have the Braves hosting the Dodgers, the Diamondbacks hosting the Brewers, and the Padres visiting the Giants. With the Mets playing the Phillies, that means that three of the four Wild Card contenders will be facing first-place teams.
  3. Oh, and no, not Kansas City!
  4. It does mention a name; it's posted to the memories page of a particular former player. But you've seen the entire post; it doesn't specifically reference anything illegal, but it seems to imply to me that it involved some kind of a date rape drug in the poster's drink. (The poster's first name is one that can be male or female but is more commonly female.) If the player did indeed do that, it's not really something I'm interested in protecting him from, but it's also not something I want to be involved in in any way at all. I like Johnny's suggestion. I'm going to think about that. When posting to the UMDB, email addresses are optional, but in this case the posted did provide one.
  5. This is an unposted memory on the UMDB page: I met [Redacted] at a TGIFridays in [suburb] when he first came to [American League City]. [Redacted], if you read this, just want you to know - it took me a few years, but I experienced a flashback, and I realized what you did that night. My inclination is to reject this, but I wanted to know what everyone else thinks.
  6. They have to win two thirds of their remaining games (10 of 15) to avoid 120 losses. They have to win no more than two fifths to end up with the outcome I'm rooting for, fewer than 40 wins.

  8. I got a 24 yesterday. Today I only got eight out of nine squares; I couldn't think of anyone for Reds/Brewers. 10. I just noticed that the Padres end the regular season with three games in Phoenix. That could be interesting. Just like with the Mets and the Braves, those two teams are currently 5 and 5 against each other.
  11. Today's quiz made me realize how little attention I pay to what hand outfielders throw with.

  16. It was interesting to learn who Bud Harrelson was.
  17. How far back are we going to go with these? Will we be eventually seeing "Who is Pud Galvin"?
  18. No, he shouldn't. But it's time for another patch. (Maybe in 2025?) Losing Grote, Harrelson, Kranepool, and McAndrew all in the same year. For me, 1971 was the Original Mets because it was the year I discovered them, and four from that team have moved on this year.
  19. Ed spoke to the Daily Herald (a suburban Chicago paper) less than two weeks ago, regarding the 2024 White Sox: https://www.dailyherald.com/20240831/chicago-white-sox/jim-odonnell-ed-kranepool-is-a-62-met-not-concerned-with-reinsdorfs-woeful-white-sox/https://www.dailyherald.com/20240831/chicago-white-sox/jim-odonnell-ed-kranepool-is-a-62-met-not-concerned-with-reinsdorfs-woeful-white-sox/ He's 79 now and lives in Florida with Monica Kranepool, his wife of 40 years. Both have survived major health challenges in recent years. “I've gotten calls lately about the White Sox, but there's not much to say,” Kranepool said. “I don't care if they lose more games than that original Mets team. It was a bad baseball team with a bad mix of young guys and some great older stars whose best years were behind them. “In a clubhouse like that, when you're young like I was, all you want is to learn and get better and have the season end. But whether the White Sox finish with more losses than that team — what does it matter to me?”
  20. This morning I realized that I had forgotten all about this guy that I spent last offseason coveting. I looked him up, and he hasn't pitched since June 15. He's been out with a strained rotator cuff. At the time of his injury, he was 6-2, 2.92 in 14 starts. 74 innings. 17 walks and 84 strikeouts.
  21. I was able to solve the puzzle for the Tampa Bay Rays, the team I know least about. Maybe the thing needs to be more challenging.
  22. Daily Walkoff #10 - 09/09/2024 New York Mets 🟡🟡🟢🟢 🟢🟢🟢🟢🚀 dailywalkoff.com I got a walk-off double with one out. I'm not sure how to interpret those yellow and green circles. After my first swing, I had two boxes wrong, so it was an easy matter to swap those two and win on my second swing.
  23. I agree with that. I don't think the Mets will look to unload him for the sake of unloading him, but it's certainly possible that he could be included in a trade at some point.
