G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 We messed with Texas Tuesday night. Let's make a mess of their getaway day Wednesday afternoon. The revived (1-7 5.78 ERA, but he could be worse) Rafael Montero takes on Martin Perez, who moves up in the Rangers' rotation with the scratching of Andrew Cashner.

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 On our way soon. We'll be in 335.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 All home game noon starts in August automatically become the spiritual descendants of the MoFo game in the picnic area of old Shea. This one in particular is on the exact date of that game now 16 years in the rearview mirror. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN200108090.shtmlThe only thing missing today will be the 104 degree temperature - and, yes, that was the ACTUAL reading that day (BB-Ref gives a 'start time' temp of 98) none of this "feels like" index shit that TV idiots use

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 When I saw the three run HR, I was thinking this might be one of those games where people say Montero is getting better because he didn't give up any more runs, after initially allowing lots of runs.Turns out it's not one of those games.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 At the 73 pitch count I'm thinking that that's usually where you like to see a pitcher after five innings except that Montero at that point had recorded five outs.oe: Perez has now gone through two innings on 25 pitches.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Are you sick of all that winning messing up your draft position? My name is Rafael Montero, and I'm here to make those wins history! Call me today at the number below...
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Yay, short benches and pinch-hitting pitchers!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 3-inning pitch count totals: Montero = 87; Perez = 31
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 If we didn't build the side walls right up against the foul line in the outfield, players wouldn't have to go into a slide while pursuing fair balls by the line.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 I know it's only the 4th inning, but considering that we've already been [u:mzc9iq88]one[/u:mzc9iq88]-hit this week ...
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Here's what they gotta do with those balls that hit the wall beyond the wall and bounce back: get some of whatever shit Yadi Molina had on his chest protecter and slather it all over the back wall. That way, any ball that clears the HR fence would stick to the back wall making it obvious to everyone that it was a HR and you'd save all that replay time.In all seriousness, there's got to be a way that each park can alter those out of play walls -- different materials, angling, whatever -- that would at least make it more obvious that the ball hit off there and not off the regular fence.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Well, I'm all for pushing that top fence back two feet or pushing the wall forward two feet, so players can reach over to make a play without it bouncing back into their face.If the wall configuration doesn't change, then the answer is to make that facing that the M&M sign is printed on out of tin, so it resounds in a way that a ball off the wall does not. Use your ears, Jerky!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 I like Frayed Knot's idea of making the wall out of some super flypaper. The bonus that comes with that is when some drunken idiot leans over the wall the try to grab a ball, he'll be stuck, forever, to the wall and his rotting corpse and eventual skeleton will become part of the lore of the stadium.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 I'd like to thank Nicholas for hacking like a backup catcher. Robles takes the mound and walks in a run, just as he's walked in runs all season, and Nicholas goes up there and strikes out without ever seeing a pitch in the zone.Even dumber than Reyes taking a fastball for strike three on 3-2 pitch with his team down by three. What gives these days, man?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Y'know, for all the ridiculousness of this game so far -- 18 Texas baserunners vs 2 for the Mets -- it's hardly out of reach with only a four run gap with four innings left to play.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 VERIZON trivia question: five players to hit 100 or more homers with 3 different franchises.I got Beltre, Reggie Jackson ... Carlos Beltran?
