5-1 Houston is your final in da Bronx.
Be a shame if Coronation Night were to coincide with a four-game sweep. And by 'shame' I mean not a shame at all.

The only thing better would be a soaking rain during the put-up-the-number-of-the-lousy-fielding-shortstop ceremonies, and then the sweep.

Well today's game has already been called off so Sunday will be a day-night DH with the coronation in between.
A lengthy, extra-innings Game One could send all those plans into a panic.

Because of the Mother's Day unis, the MFYs will have to wear pink like everyone else for the retirement ceremony (unless they've asked for a waiver because they're the MFYs).

Aroldis Chapman DL'd with shoulder issues. Expected to miss around a month.
His last couple of outings have been brought ones for him: 4 runs on 6 hits + 2 BBs over two separate outings which each lasted only 2/3 inning.

btw, since Dellin Betances will now be the Yanqui closer for at least the next month and maybe longer, does he get to take Randy Levine back to arbitration and get a $3-$4 million bump in his salary
because of it?
Or does he at least get to kick Levine repeatedly in the nads?

Another reason to watch on ESPN Deportes.

I love how the MFYs are paying tribute to 2013-14 Jeets, going 1-12 with 8 Ks in the first four innings while the Astros scored nine runs.

And not in attendance tonight.
My guess is that his exclusion wasn't an oversight.

Jeter is arguably as good as Alan Trammell, more or less. From his position in the pantheon, I'm not even sure he can see Honus Wagner.

Trammell vs Jeter is a tough argument -

Jeter was a slightly better hitter who managed 33% more plate appearances and stayed healthy into his late 30's. He was a huge defensive liability.

Trammell was a decent if not good fielder, but he played 146 games in his age 32 season and never more than 112 in the 6 more years of his career.

Jeter probably had the better peak too - and while Trammell hit well in the only 3 playoff series his team bothered making, Jeter has a full season's worth of post-season ABs thanks to expanded playoffs and being on a good team - he made the most of those appearances though.

I'd give the slight edge to Jeter - but Trammell is a good comp.

an even better comp for Jeter - though this guy i'd put slightly ahead of him - is Barry Larkin.

Are we forgetting that he made the rain stop before the ceremony? How great was that?
That plaque covers more area than he did.

The best thing about it was that the MFYs were out of the game early and it took all of the energy out of the crowd.

The worst thing was the non stop gush fest from the broadcasters. It was worse on the radio, I was running some late errands and suffered through an inning of the "Dingus and Granny Panties" show.

Skipped the ceremony, picked up the game in mid-1st inning. By the end of the inning I was so giddy I had to stick with it.
Freakin' Yanx actually wound up getting the tying run to the plate in the 9th in a game they once trailed 8-0 as Houston's pen was almost as bad as ours yesterday, but they at least
stopped one hit short of making it the worst day in recent baseball memory by holding on to the 10-7 win.

The problem with the early blow-out is it did give the booth even more of an opportunity than usual to yap about anything other than the game and yesterday that could only mean one thing.
I mean, hell, their advertising was building all week as if the night was a coronation which, for some odd reason, also involved some invitees from east Texas who then rudely went stomping
in the fruit salad before the main course could even be served. 3 HRs in the 1st inning including a GS will do that to you.
