Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 An announcement is rolling out over the digitalscape that Jacob deGrom will meet the media tomorrow at 10:45 at Citi Field. And if anybody knows why, they ain't saying.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 My Spidey sense tells me this is more likely to be bad news than good news.My sense is it's something about his recovery from surgery. On the other hand, I'm hoping it's something nice, like he's announcing a new charitable endeavor.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 (edited) Worries here. But would Jake need to be the one to announce an injury setback?Long-term deal? Also, 10:45? Why not 11:00? Edited December 1, 2016 by Guest
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Don't knock it. It spares us 15 minutes of suspense.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 He better be announcing that he's playing Santa this year. I want him book-ended by Jeff and Sandy, he can slip on the Santa outfit, smile for pics, THE END.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Yea, watching this on fb. Is this tomorrows press conference moved up?
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 I tuned in late. No idea what it was about. They were just talking about stuff. It was very enjoyable and both Jacob and Darling were pretty funny, but I have no idea what the reason for the conference was.OE: It was a really nice interview, basically. Catch it if you can because it was funny and informative.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 I have no idea where the original "news" of this scheduled presser came from, but I see no mention of it in the usual NYM-related blog-a-verse [Rubin, tabloids, Cerone]
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 2, 2016 Author Posted December 2, 2016 The "news" came from from a buncha beat guys tweeting. The chat was exactly like a lot of the traditional "season ticket holders meet ballplayers and broadcasters and hopefully renew their package" chats. But I don't think that's what it was, so much as the Mets experimenting with FB Live.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 2, 2016 Author Posted December 2, 2016 Recovery going well. He can tell he feels better even though he hasn't thrown yet, but expects to throw soon. Mets haven't approached him about a contract extension. The informal press conference went down in home the locker room, which is kind of cool, in that he's seemingly in front of his locker, as if that's where he's most comfortable talking.Syndergaard expected to be Santa Claus this year.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Syndergaard should probably play Santa every year.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Uh-oh-ho-ho. Playing Santa is a curse. Syndergaard should stay far away. And he'll never be able to top this anyway.

FanRag Sports first reported the possibility. The 29-year-old deGrom is set to hit the free-agent market following the 2020 season. But the two sides could negotiate a four- or five-year deal that would keep deGrom with the Mets beyond the next three seasons.

The Mets would then receive a team-friendly contract for two added years of control.

So, if this happens, will the raise he gets for 2018 cut into the $30-40 million that Alderson has to play with or is that considered separate?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 15, 2017 Author Posted November 15, 2017 I don't think we should take that $30-40 million as a hard truth, but of course any additional moneys he gets is applied to the same budget.
