Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 The Mets get a day off to decompress and then head into Philadelphia with a darn good chance to tie something up. Robert Gsellman takes on Alec Asher. You may remember Asher from his last turn in the rotation, given a 10-0 lead over Sean Gilmartin, but leaving after giving up four unearned runs in the fifth, the start of what was almost an historic comeback. Yeah, those runs were unearned, but the Mets started hitting it hard all over the park. Fear not Asher. He's got no trophies on display. He signs them away. I mean, what the heck?Céspedes, meanwhile, just wants to get out on the floor and do the Cuban Slide.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 Mets'll be @PHI on 9/30, unless the continued FLA designation is for luck.BTW, FLA has been MIA for five seasons. Literally and figuratively.

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 According to GKR, they may cobble together an entire start on Friday using the bullpen. Which, of course, would be delightful. This was originally their plan for Saturday but since the game is a national broadcast, the Phillies don't want to embarrass themselves (beyond what they've already done to embarrass themselves in the standings this year, of course).

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 30, 2016 Author Posted September 30, 2016 All sources I checked (one or two) still list Asher as our starter.Let's achieve.[youtube:1u98leah]GyhOCv1IAO8[/youtube:1u98leah]
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 And despite some rumblings that Bartolo might get today's start, it still appears that the Mets are sticking with the original plan of starting Gsellman.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 It's okay. Just put the hammer down these next two games and let Thor get a tuneup on Sunday. Two wins and it doesn't matter what anyone else does.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 And while the weather's not looking good for tonight, it's also not looking like the total washout it might have been a couple days ago.Saturday might be hit or miss. Sunday ... well by Sunday we'll have things sewn up already so who cares.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 It surprised me the other day to realize the Mets have three 30-HR hitters in their lineup right now, plus Doodoo.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Asher was the guy who was on the mound for the only loss to the Phils in the last series, being the beneficiary of Gilmartin & Montero putting us in a 10-0 hole.He held the Mets scoreless thru 4, then allowed 4 in the 5th and even though all were unearned that was it for him for the night. NYM bats chipped away at the Philly pen after he departed and had the runners on base to tie it up but left seven on in the last three innings.I think we owe him an ass-kicking.

Has he pretty much been designated to be Rivera's backup at this point?

Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Rivera has been handling pitchers and throwing out runners and has an OPS almost identical to D'Arnaud's. I still want to think D'Arnaud has a better career ahead of him, but there's no way he's been better than Rivera this year.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Ryan Howard's final series as an overpaid Phillie. Hope he doesn't get all dramatic over it.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 1-13 with a homer late on Sunday with the Mets up 12-0 would be ok drama.Other than that...

His little wrist cock with the bat as the pitch comes in and his little wrist cock right before the throws a ball.d'arnaud's problem is he has a wrist cock.G-Fafif wrote:Ryan Howard's final series as an overpaid Phillie. I wonder if Plaweckis good year in AAA hasn't jumped him.
