We're back to halves for a week as STL has the day off while the Mets host PHI and SF is at SD (the Mets are off next Thursday while SF has Monday off). For SF it's Jeff Samardzija (11-10, 3.97), for SD we're big fans of someone named Chirstian Friedrich (5-10, 4.78). It's on MLBN.

While the overall position of the top three didn't change much in these last couple days, these last few days have brought the Marlins & even the frickin' Pirates back into at least the fringes of the picture.

As of last week, Pitt had sunk to four games below .500, had lost, in quick succession, Gerritt Cole & Josh Harrison for the season, and looked as dead as any pretender could be.
Since then they've won six of eight. Sure it's been Cincy, Philly & the Brewers, but bad teams don't always play bad from what I've heard.

And while the Marlins taking two of three from the Nats would have been welcomed at most times of the year, this week was a really bad time to see it.

Pitt -3.5
Marlins -4.0

There's also no longer any sense in hoping that the Dodgers could fall back into this so we've got to be neck-deep in rooting for LA in their final three head-to-head games w/SFG which conclude the season.

As a reminder, the Cards are in Chicago today, so it will be a gay dame with a 2:20PM ET start. Leake vs. Arrieta.

Again, SF plays obscenely late (10:40PM ET).

You know something? It's much easier to find pictures of Cubs fans than of Padres fans.

Rooting hard for the Cubs today. Hoping to have reason to root hard against them in two weeks.

And they've already lost their 55th game so they no longer have a shot at matching the Mets '86 record making it totally safe to root for the Cubs.

I opened this thread thinking:

"Wow, it would be nice if it were already 4-0 Cubs."

Then read your score and thought, 3-0 is still good.

Then looked up the score.

4-0! Still batting!

The Cubs had a pre-game ceremony honoring David Ross for the final home series of his career.

Like, really?

Hard to figure. Only his second year on the team. Had far more at bats as a Red and as a Brave than as a Cub, not to mention his time with the Dodgers, the Pirates, the Padres and the Red Sox.

He's apparently been very popular there as the elder statesman/father figure/veteran presence/insert your favorite old-guy cliche here.
He even has the gray hairs in his beard to play the part. Grandpa Rossi they call him.

Padres still batting in the bottom of the first. Runner on first, nobody out... and three runs in!

Niiiiiiiiice! I'll have to tune in.

Picked up a game in the NL East, too, with Michael Conforto's bat and Daniel Murphy's buttocks conspiring to help the Mets stave off elimination for one more day.

And now the JintsWest are up 3-0 in the first.

Yeah? Now it's 6-5 in the 6th.

Giants, btw, have lost 8 of the 13 times Bumgarner has started since the ASB

I stay w/WOR until MLBtv cuts me off (when we are playing the Phils). This is great, get to hear TCs post press and all this extra Mets stuff. I have to remember to switch to WOR after the GKR broadcasts. MLBtv can't pull the plug on those soon enough. It's like "3 outs! And the Mets have.."

THANK YOU FOR WATCHING
