MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 I hope there is no rain delay or extra inning game tonight, with tomorrow's game in Cincy starting at 1 PM.Fuck you, ESPN (and Ichiro, too)Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Blame MLB more than ESPN. They either need to put restrictions on which games the network can grab for their Sunday Night showcase or they have to force Cincy to change the start time of Monday's game.Don't know anything about this Reynaldo Lopez guy who we're seeing instead of Scherzer (bet the Cards, Pirates, etc. aren't happy 'bout that!)22 y/o, 6' 0", 185, R/RSigned by the Nats as an 18 y/o out of the DR in 2012. Progressed steadily if not spectacularly through the system.14 starts in AA Harrisburg this year [4.13 ERA, 1.23 WHIP] then five in AAA Syracuse [3.27, 0.94], and five spot starts w/Washington [2-2; 5.33; 1.70]Started off his ML career by getting drubbed by the Dodgers back in July [6 earned in 4.2 IP] and is coming off a bad outing vs the Orioles [6 runs (4 earned) never got out of the 3rd] with three better outings in between.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 And Lopez is going up against the guy we should start call 'The Disc Jockey' because his spin rate is so high.Highest ever they say - although 'Ever' is a relative term since they've just been measuring this stuff since last season. But despite that short time frame, not only does Lugo already own the highest-spin curve yet recorded but he's got seven of the top 10, and 18 of the top 25, and 32 of the top 50, ... and all despite his own short time frame of only 34 2/3 Major League innings so far.

Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 In Cleveland, it's fastballing Danny Salazar versus slow-in-the-head Tom Koehler. Salazar has 11 Ks through five innings, but it's still Marlins 1, Indians 0.

They either need to put restrictions on which games the network can grab for their Sunday Night showcase or they have to force Cincy to change the start time of Monday's game.Per the CBA:ARTICLE VSection C (9) Getaway games shall not be scheduled or rescheduled to start later than 5 P.M. if either Club is required to travel for a day game, scheduled the next day, between cities in which the in-flight time is more than 1 1/2 hours. In each season, the championship season schedule may contain six exceptions to the rule in the immediately preceding sentence provided that the traveling Club is traveling to Chicago to play the Cubs and the in-flight time does not exceed 2 1/2 hours.Flight time LGA to CVA = 2:15 on averageAlso (bolding mine):ARTICLE VSection C (19) With respect to the rescheduling of any game, except for games rescheduled as split doubleheaders as set forth in Section C(1)*, any scheduling or rescheduling rule set forth in this Article V may be waived by the secret ballot vote of a majority of the Players on the Club(s) that would be in violation of the rule. Separate votes shall be required with regard to each game for which a waiver is sought. A waiver granted pursuant to this provision, as well as a waiver granted by the Association pursuant to Section C(1)*, shall not constitute a precedent with regard to future waiver requests. With respect to the rescheduling of any such game, and all games rescheduled pursuant to Section C(1)*, the Club(s) shall consult with the Association concerning the actual date and time of such rescheduled game. The Club(s) shall use best efforts to notify the Association in advance of notifying the Players on the Club(s) affected. This leads me to believe that the Mets players signed off on the quick turnaround, no?*Section C(1) are the rules for split doubleheader scheduling. batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 The Mets once had "The Doctor" and now it looks like they have "The Spin Doctor".
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 The 2:15 includes taxiing time and time at the gate, and has a bit of fat in it. Actual time in flight is probably just about 90 minutes.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Yup. Both the Marlins and the Giants took leads into the 9th today but neither could hang on to the lead.seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians" scored three times in the 9th. Cubs tied up their game vs SFG with one in the 9th then walked it off in extras.Pirates got blown out by the Brewers today which completed the sweep!Cards won today, as did the Dodgers.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Pretty psyched to hear ESPN fillating Murphy all night.
Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 I saw a couple columns taking the "What if Murphy had stayed with the Mets..." theme.Who are we kidding. If Murph was with the Mets, he'd have torn his ACL in June and be out for the season.Nice catch by Cespedes.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 It doesn't make his success any easier to take but Murphy cost himself a lot of money. The Mets QO was $15.8 million. He signed with WSH for 3 years at $37.5 million (and WSH only gives back-loaded contracts). With the season he is having (assuming he'd have that year with the Mets), he would have made a lot more as a free agent this winter than he did last winter.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 That was one long-ass 1st inning for just one run being scored.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Did you see Harper fake throwing the ball into the stands? What a jerk.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Christ, this booth is so mouthy
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 ESPN does the worst job at broadcasting baseball. Between their storylines, the "K Zone", the crawl at the bottom, and their announcers never shutting up it's awful. I'd rather listen to Joe Buck feign interest in baseball or watch TBS with the box on the right side of the screen than have the Mets on ESPN. Having said that, I really hope to watch the Mets in the Wild Card game on ESPN on October 5th
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 How fucking dumb is Jay Bruce

But he could score from second on a base hit. And Reyes is a decent candidate to hit a single. But, is that on Teufel or Bruce?
Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Curtis, my man! Granderboom!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 And now two quick innings has Lugo's pitch count in order (58 thru 4)Meanwhile the other guy probably doesn't survive this inning if he allows another baserunner. Not that that matters as much this time of year when you've got 14 or so guys in the pen.

You never want to endthe inning with an out at third base. (bow heads to Tim McCarver) Still the play was in frontof him so the decision was his and no way was he looking to Teufel, at least he shouldn't be.Dumb play, I kinda feel sorry for him... I hope he finds himself soon.
