A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 As reported over here, the Dodgers just picked up Josh Reddick from the A's and sent Yasiel Puig to the minors. They're tired of Puig for a bunch of reasons, and that's where we come in.He's (allegedly) only 25, is right-handed, and "plays" centerfield (albeit, kinda shittily). He's signed 2 more years after this at $8.2M and $9.2M per, and I bet he would slide through waivers, could fake CF for a couple months, and be a corner OF in '17 and '18. If the Dodgers paid some of his $$ and asked for an unheralded minor leaguer or 2 like him in return, would you buy Jay Bruce a 1B glove and take a chance? Would Puig + Cespedes be Cubano magic, or go all Cuban Missile Crisis nuclear in 10 seconds?? Would we be a better or worse team? Would the OF log jam just be jammier?? Would we still have a place for Lagares/Nimmo next year? Is this idea effing stupid?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Puig may not be as big jerk as his reputation suggests, but I imagine everybody in the league knows the truth by now.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 I fantasized about Puig in the Mets OF ever since I saw him play. But this most recent stuff with him makes me a bit leery. I think Cespedes would be a great help to him though. I think Yoenis is a bit more mature than Puig and would make a good big bro type. The potential with Puig is crazy good, but that's if he hasn't already lost it. Personally, no matter what happens with him, I hope he gets back to form. Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 An important factor is that the team just called up Josh Edgin, so 66 is totally taken. It would have to be the first conflict over number 66 in béisbol history.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2016 Author Posted August 2, 2016 I think he's awesome again after that Ken Rosenthal, #puigyourfriend shit.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 I'd honestly rather Puig than Bruce and I'd have given up as much for him. Can't help but think the crap the Dodgers have pulled with him has been detrimental, I bet he'd love a change of pace and would love it here.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 I'd take Puig in a second if it only costs us Wilpon's money and no real prospects, why not try it?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Because he might displace somebody better, and possibly engage in divisive behavior while doing it.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 I don't imagine he would displace Kelly, no, as Kelly is more the sixth infielder and not the fifth outfielder. He'd more likely displace De Aza or Conforto, who went 3-7 with two doubles and a homer between them tonight, so pick your poison.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 No Puig please. The Dodgers have been trying to get rid of him for two years with no takers. He can't play center and he's a jerk.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Hell, if the Dodgers kick in money, you can even platoon Bruce and Puig.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 it goes without saying that it depends on the cost (both in $ and in prospects), but i don't think it's a terrible idea to get a relatively young and talented guy on the roster, with demonstrable major league production, as long as you keep your options open and are prepared to dump him if necessary.
