seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 Unless the Reds are eating a lot of salary, I'm meh on Votto. But Jay Bruce would be interesting.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 Bruce is going to be a big name for a lot of teams in trade deadline talks this summer and has seemingly been on the NYM radar forever - even going back to his draft year when they reportedly passed him over for Pelfrey (JB was taken 4 picks later). But is a meh-BA (.274 this season but .249 career), high-K (150+/yr avg), lefty-swinging OF really what we want for a half-season? Seems to me we've already got our share of guys fitting that description and I'd just as soon take my chances with Conforto-Nimmo (sounds like a cloud of some sort) than spend resources on him. If he did come presumably he'd play RF--where he'd upgrade the arm situation but probably not the glove--while shoving Grandy over to LF and relegating all the younger guys to the bench/Vegas.

Pass on Bruce.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe lists the Mets as one of several teams that may be a good fit for... Ryan Braun.Ryan Braun, OF, Brewers — “He’s the hot name out there,” said one National League scout. Braun is having an outstanding year, seemingly all the way back from PED disgrace and the subsequent reduction of his numbers. Which team could benefit from the righthanded, middle-of-the-order bat? The scout thought the Astros, Cardinals, Red Sox, Phillies, Mets, Giants, and White Sox were good fits. Braun is in the first year of a five-year, $105 million extension.http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2016/05/28/nick-cafardo-red-sox-bring-back-good-memories-for-ruben-amaro/fqP5o5RNFh9ldvB2rIZP7K/story.html
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 Get Reyes and Braun and we can recreate the 2011 batting title race. Each day, the first one of the two to get a bunt single gets to leave the game early.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 Braun would be a great get. wonder what he'd cost. probalby more than Wheeler.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 It will take more tahn Wheeler now.Zack Wheeler has been backed off his rehab due to renewed elbow discomfort. He won't throw his scheduled simulated game this week, and this will also further delay a minor league rehab assignment. Wheeler had been aiming to return from Tommy John surgery shortly after the All-Star break. He might now be sidelined through all of July. The right-hander is scheduled to be examined by Mets team doctors on Wednesday in New York.DiComo
