#Mets and #Braves are "close" on a trade, sources say. @MLBNetwork

I'd like a second source before I believe it.

I'd also like someone to confirm the Braves have anyone worth trading for.

Kelly Johnson? Freddy Freeman? Chase d'Arnaud?

....

Jeff Francoeur?

I'd be delighted with Freddy, but that's not all that likely now is it?

Rubin says a Met minor leaguer has been traded.

Could be Johnson or maybe Pierzynski. That gets Plawecki down to AAA without costing us Polish fans.

Kelly Johnson for Akeel Morris is the deal, Rubes says.

That's not very excirting.

not particularly. I mean, he's a legitimate major leaguer, but I'm not sure another player actively slumping is going to help all that much.

Hopefully.

I remember advocating for Kelly Johnson's return last winter. Would have been nice to just re-sign him and keep our Akeel.

We wouldn't have wanted his results so far, nor needed them but for the injuries.

I was kinda hoping we could make something of Morris but time was nearing to make a decision on him anyhow.

Certain this means less Kelly and more Johnson in 55.

But that's the thing, these injuries were absolutely foreseeable, and that's why you get him.

And it's not true that we wouldn't have wanted those results so far. They're not very good, but they're better than the ones we got (from Campbell) by 70 points in OPS!

If we keep renting this guy year after year, Braves are going to have a whole roster of Mets guys they've gotten for Kelly Johnson.

Is this the first time the Mets have traded for someone twice from the same team?

Eh, not all that jazzed up over this.
His contributions last year -- like those of Uribe although to a lesser extent -- were more due to the timing of his hits than it was from the raw numbers themselves [.250 BA, .304 OBA; 38 Ks in 128 AB] and his stats this year playing at least semi-regularly with Atlanta aren't even as good as that [.215/.273; 1 HR]

Will he help? Maybe.
A better 24th/25th man over the random Campbell/Ty Kelly type? Probably, seeing as how they (Campbell mostly) were so bad, but not necessarily.

I guess he gets some ABs at 3rd base vs RHPs plus represents the Terry's best 'scary' PH bat off the bench.

Now how long is it until the poll is up for when and where he gets traded away?

When you think of unnecessary expenditures of resources, think of Akeel.

Akeel has been putting up awful numbers at Bingo. I saw him blow a save in Akron this season and, based on that small sample size, it looks like he's coming by the bad numbers honestly. So I'm thinking of this as only slightly higher risk than the Loney pickup - a little bit of upside and pretty near zero downside.

Akeel Morris: /wins 2018 NL RoY Award

I'm kidding. Godspeed, Akeel. He's one of the few players where I can say I watched the entirety of his Mets career.

While his walk numbers have been stinky in 2016, it's worth noting that Akeel still has been a very hard assignment to hit. His strikeout numbers are sill frighteningly high and he's given up only 19 hits in 25 1/3 innings.

He put up a great line last summer after the Toronto appearance... also in Binghamton.

Overall, he's gone 3.46/1.22 with 11.22 K/9 (and 5 walks-per) at AA. He's still just 23.

It's just a shame... they could have had Kelly back for a song, money-wise. Instead...
