Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Check out Skinny Bartolo and Mustachioed Bartolo.Recker is in the Indians org and on the 40-man, but hasn't yet been on the big club this season.
Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 I'm going to the Saturday game!!!!!Is the Mike Vail card real? Don't remember that one.

Don't remember where I got it from, but I've had it on my hard drive for a while, I suppose. Whenever I come across a DIY card of a one-time Met, I scoop it up for future use, meaning mainly for this style thread.

I didn't even bother asking for youse to identify the interloper because, to tell you the truth, I didn't think anyone would've picked up on Recker's status. And if anyone did, no one woulda connected it to this thread. This contest though, didn't even last past an hour."Johnny, tell Chad what he's won...."

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I like the Indian crying guy from the pollution commercial on the Santos card. Interesting touch.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Here's me and my friend Joe in the Municipal Stadium bullpen in 1988. It was taken by another friend who roadtripped from Delaware with us.We showed up for a day game that turned out to be a night game. We had driven in from Pittsburgh that morning. We started the afternoon before in Delaware with about 5 minutes of planning and ultimately on our way to the Kings Island amusement park. I bought that Indians jersey at a rest stop on the way. The 3 of us slept in the car, a Honda Civic. We were walking around the empty stadium parking lot when we saw a door with a sign that said DO NOT ENTER THROUGH THIS GATE so we entered through that gate. Led to a long corridor ramp that went down, down, down to another door which we threw open and BAM. We are in left field. It was a bright sunny day.It was like when you see the first sliver of the green grass on the field as a kid: But it was all in front of us. Made it to the pitcher's mound before groundskeepers working along the RF line shooed us off. My instinct was to run but the guy was totally cool. "Hey, man. The head groundskeeper is just really particular about his infield. You guys can hang out, but just stay off the infield." So we hung out in the first base dugout for awhile with a groundskeeper. He said he'd been working the stadium fulltime since he was teenager and that generations of his family had as well. They also did Browns games. He gave us a bunch of baseballs.Indians beat the Mariners that night 10-7. Steve Balboni hit a 3-run homer for the losers.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Too bad we'll miss this guy. I hear he's selling insurance now.Wonder if Steve Gelbs will visit with Harry Doyle.

I interviewed the guy who bangs on the drum in the outfield. It was a fun park.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2016 Author Posted April 16, 2016 Zvon wrote:I like the Indian crying guy from the pollution commercial on the Santos card. Interesting touch.I changed that card. I rushed the first one because I was pressed for time, and in the end, I didn't like the way Santos and the Benton came out. I used an Indian themed font for the player name. The font had many features and Indian things going on inside the outline of each letter. But I saw that the font didn't work well at such a small scale because of its intricacy. You couldn't see the goings on -- and you could barely read it either, which should be the main thing about a font. That font needed to be displayed larger. Also, I didn't do a good job of incorporating the non baseball playing Indians into the cards. So I re-did those.Overall, this card thread was a real pain in the ass. There must be around 20 Indian/Mets not represented -- and that's a high number these days. Over the years, I developed an efficient system for getting the cards for the threads. Plus, custom-carding has increased in popularity in that time -- so that helps fill in the gap for players without cards. Plus I can do customs now, too, so I usually pitch in a couple of my own. But some players, you just can't get. There are no pictures of them on the web. Typically though, I usually narrow the MIA's to less than 10 nowadays. Last season, I even did a team without any MIA's -- a rarity. But these Indians, well there's apparently a lot of one-time Mets off the reservation.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 There's still an unsolved interloper up there somewhere.

The season after we win it all 2 seasons in a row.It might be this season. I was thinking that for this season, only doing these threads for some of the AL teams that the Mets are gonna play. I've been doing these for over four seasons now and everyone's seen the NL team cards too much. No one's making Dennis Ribant Pirates cards anymore. How many times can youse look at that same '67 Topps Ribant card? It's the only one of him in a Pitt uni. I'm getting bored ... and I think that youse are bored of this routine also.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2016 Author Posted April 18, 2016 Your other interlopers are Jerry Hinsley, Bob Rauch and surprisingly, Harry Chiti who, it turns out, never played for the Indians -- either before they sent him to the Mets, or after the Mets sent him back to Cleveland. Thank you for playing. I guess.
