Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 I don't know Queens well except what's along the subway line. Is this year'splace (O'Neil's) within walking distance of the 7 line? I looked briefly at the google map, but figure it's easier to just ask and start a thread. (I thought there was one, but couldn't find that either).
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 There's a bus transfer I think, but I'm driving so I dunno.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Doesn't look like it. Cab from the Woodside stop?I might walk or something. That's the problem with Maspeth.
dgwphotography Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 This location doesn't look like it's friendly for mass-transit
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 What date is this? And in "Sandy and Pee Wee" I assume it's Koufax and not Alderson?

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Looks like QBC didn't get permission to use the Mets logos or wordmarks. seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Hey, I presented at that Hofstra thing. I remember that.

So I doubt if they slapped a Mets logo on something it would matter.

Guest themetfairy Guests Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I hate the location, sight unseen. Coordinating with MK that day is going to be difficult. We're driving in while he's coming from the City. It would have been better if the place was near a train stop.

Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I was thinking that $50 was starting to get a little steep until I sawthat I can kiss a Mookie if I'd rather. No tee shirts this year?

That will be a live recording.

It would have been better if the place was near a train stop.I think they wanted a bigger space than what Citi Field's McFadden's provided in the past. Also apparently the place is very Met friendly. But yeah, its roughly a 20 minute walk from the nearest train ride, which isn't bad on nice days, but not great for those who'd rather use mass transit.I do wonder if McFadden's didn't want to do it any more in case anyone thought there was an official connection with the Mets? I don't know.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 McFadden's is pretty much a crap space. Sound quality is rough, even with the external stuff brought in last year. QBC outgrew the secondary room for events. It was just really poor there.I don't know the details about if it fell through or it was just too expensive and they wouldn't cut a deal, but I know they did talk with Metropolitan Hospitality about having it actually _inside_ Citi Field.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Gil Hodges is the Gil Hodges Unforgettable Fire Award, which I'm presenting to Buddy Harrelson. I'll also be on the Mets Books and Mets Villains panels, for writing the former and bristling at the latter. Can't speak for the locale (I wish it were closer to the 7) but it's a packed program, hope many will come on down.

The QBC likely removed the logos from Bud and Teufel's caps because it looks a lot nicer that way.[fimg=333]http://35b.f7b.myftpupload.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Budcrop.jpg[/fimg] [fimg=273]http://35b.f7b.myftpupload.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Teufelcrop.jpg[/fimg]I can't decide what's nicer: these pictures or the Mets scoreboards.

It's got Mets stats on it.

Fifty bucks is a lot for the casual fan and families.

I don't know any details, I'm justspeculating on the costs. I did wonder where all that money goes the other day.Players signing get some, but Bobby's autograph is an additional charge. I guessthe restaurant charges rent or whatever, but to me that's kind of a racket con-sidering they're selling food and beverage for over six hours to a captive crowd.Boiled down, and we've talked about it before, the Mets really need to get on board and have an extraordinary off-season festival for the fans of The O&B.
