Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Greetings from Akron, Ohio, where every game is a rubber game. Stud Muffins are up 2-1 after 4, and my boy Gsellman looks like a man among ducks, though he's having some trouble controlling his curve.LJ Mazzilli has looked particularly lost at the plate today. Also, it's Superhero Night. Had I gotten here in time to be one of the first 1000 fans, I would have gotten a spiff Rubber Ducks foam superhero shield.
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 Dux 5, Mets 2. Flerg. Gsellman gsot hit hard in the 5th. I did get to see Maikis De La Cruz make a badass diving catch. Now to figure out how to get out of Akron.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 22, 2016 Author Posted May 22, 2016 Look for a place that's open. If you find one, you're out of Akron.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 25, 2016 Author Posted May 25, 2016 The Binghamton Twilighters have not only had some naming drama, but they've also had a highly volatile roster of late.Dom Smith is coming along slowly but surely, and certainly has his RBI stroke going. In a curious move, they've added Dale Burdick, a 20-year-old infielder who hasn't played higher than Kingsport. The team has gone a damp 2-5 this week, dropping a dis-spiriting 10 games behind the Reading Phightin' Phils in the Eastern League Eastern Division. They're being shut out this evening by Richmond... and Richmond ain't good. On the plus side, Wilmer Flores is 2-3 in his first rehab start, playing first base.TransactionAdded To DLActivatedFrom DLPromotedFromSt. LucieDemotedTo St. LuciePromotedFromSt. Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 12, 2016 Author Posted June 12, 2016 Newly signed minor league free agent Josh Zeid made his 2016 debut throwing 6 2/3 scoreless for the B-Mets as the Krabapled the Hartford Yard Goats 8-1. Red-hot Phil Evans went 2-4 with a double and a homer, upping his average to .323.Here's the weird shit, though. Evans was promoted from St. Lucie on April 22. Like, seven weeks ago. In that time, he's played in 29 games and come to the plate 96 times, and ... his next walk will be his first. In the kind of statistical oddity that sometimes happens after a handful of games, but usually disappears a week or so, Evans actually has an on-base percentage that's lower than his batting average. He's hitting .323, but reaching base at .320. In other words, he has a negative isOBP.That's just so very sad.Anyhow, YAY BMETS!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 18, 2016 Author Posted June 18, 2016 Bingo is still trying to find some traction, but have no real standout performers. This is in part a result of dealing from the middle of the system (of the deck, if you will) last summer, but also the reality of having two #1 draft choices who aren't running with the ball. Phil Evans is getting his hits, but refusing to walk almost philosophically. Dominic Smith is well rounded, but underwhelming.Logan Taylor is coming on strong as a reliever, but he's not stopping the presses or anything. All that adds up to an un-characteristic and un-Metly fifth place in the Eastern League Eastern Division, 19.5 games behind the Reading Phightin' Phils.TransactionPromoted ToLas Vegas6/15SignedAway FromLA Angels6/8PromotedFrom St.Lucie6/9Traded MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Its nice to know that our coaching staffs throughout the organization are doing one thing right. They are teaching the youngsters to wear a baseball cap they way it should be worn, curved brim. It appears that Luis Mateo is the only slow learner.Later
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 How about a word for Glenn Abbott. We used to make fun of his baseball card growing up, in one of them he's a little buck-toothed and looks like he's saying FFFFFuck. In another he got an especially bad cap-paint as a Mariners expansion draftee. Not a great career as a big leaguer but did get a WS ring as an '84 Detroit Tiger, his last season in the bigs. The Mets made him a pitching coach of Little Falls (Brooklyn's predecessor) right after, in 1985, he stuck around the org for 5 years, another 20+ in other orgs, and came back to Bingo in 2012.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 12, 2016 Author Posted July 12, 2016 Normally, I'd say this looks like the Smitty and Rosario show. (Both, not so coincidentally are currently on leave as they head to San Diego to be make-believe big-leaguers.)But while the former has been interesting, backing off the contact and displaying run-producer power this season, the latter has been a rock show. And we're talking Jimi at Monterey. The Clash on Broadway. Somehow, he's slugging over .600 without hitting any homers, having amassed five doubles and three triples already in just 59 at-bats at AA. There are a bunch of shortstops ahead of him. Phil Evans was until a few weeks ago. He's having a perfectly good season, but he's been knocked over to second and the rest of them — Niuman Romero, Matt Reynolds, Gavin Cecchini, Wilmer Flores, José Reyes, and Asdrubal Cabrera — could all be similarly kicked aside in the next 10-20 months. That's two first-round picks, a second-rounder, two former Futures games participants, and two All Stars, all in his path, and he's set to mow them on down.Bullpen-wise, this has been a really nice bounce back for David Roseboom, who spit last season between Low-A and High-A. He was great in the former and bad in the latter, but got a promotion to AA anyhow and has been perhaps their top reliever.TransactionPromotedTo Las Vegas7/8Sent FromNew Yorkon Yeah, sure, one is a horse and another is a clam and there are inchworms and onions and shoelaces and paperclips or whatever, but none of them make me at all tempted to spend a nickel on merchandise. The last minor league logo I remember liking was this one, because I liked the way it incorporated the major league club's logo. But I didn't spend a nickel on that one either, although at least I thought about it!

Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Is that supposed to be a merry-go-round horse?
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Rumble Pony is a character from the "My Little Pony" universe. So, many kids and pedophiles are happy about this new name!
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 I was hoping for the Gobblers. Ponies are way less sexy.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 i love the rumble ponies name. the horse with teh boxing gloves and belt, though, is awful, and totally undermines the whole damned thing. either your a goddamn carousel horse, or you're not, damnit!
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 Per the Binghamton Mets official press release this is how the name came about:The winning name submission came from Nicole, of Binghamton. Her inspiration for Rumble Ponies came from “The Carousel,” a children’s book written by Binghamton University professor Liz Rosenberg about carousel horses that sleep in the winter, but come to life in the spring. Nicole was awarded season tickets for life and the first home jersey produced for winning the Name the Team Contest.“When I rode the carousels as a child every summer, I imagined they were wild stallions or untamed ponies,” said Nicole. “Now as a mother I watch my young sons do the same. The book illustrates the concept of every child's imagination of what these horses truly are. These carousels of the Triple Cities were put here by men of industry from our local history for the community to enjoy, just like baseball.”“Using a local author’s work as her lead, Nicole has helped shape the future of Minor League Baseball in Binghamton while paying homage to the past,” Hughes said. “That speaks volumes about the strength and spirit of the people of the Southern Tier.”Later

But getting too cute with vaguely homoerotic designations may be getting old pretty soon.[fimg=750:2iodkj3b]http://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews.com/theadvocate.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/c/38/c388b39c-ab8e-11e6-8901-ab3265a2205b/582ba04a13949.image.jpg[/fimg:2iodkj3b]
