It seems like Red Sox Nation considers Betts untouchable but are at least willing to talk about SS Xander Bogaerts.

22 years old, and started 4.6 WARs last year. 320/355/421//776

Bats R.

He BABIPPED at .372, with 33 infield hits (out of 196 total), but he was a singles/batting average star with 7 HRs and 35 doubles. Plays a good short.

He had that great post-season as a fresh out-of-the-box player in that surprise Boston run in 2013 -- then was handed a job for the coming season and pretty much bombed.
But that fall was made to look a bit more dramatic that it probably was. Had he not arrived with such a flourish in late 2013 his 2014 mess would have just been seen as the rookie growing pains season that it essentially was rather than a step backwards.

I'm on board with trying to upgrade SS as the biggest step we could make this winter and trying to pry this guy out of Beantown would be one of the better moves we could make (better than most of the proposed moves w/the Cubs that have been floated over the last year or so).
