I'm not sure what he was concluding. He clearly knew something good happened, but still seemed to think he was out.

I believe he assumed the double play was completed.

Who knows.

What happened?

Bases loaded, bottom 1. 1 out. Murphy is on second.

Grounder to third. Runner coming from first (Cespedes) is out at second. Ball dropped on transfer so no double play.
D'Arnaud safe at first.
Granderson scores.
Murphy, instead of just reaching third safely, manages to run the Mets out of the inning and is tagged out by Simmons.

Reviewing replay, it looks like Murphy forgot how many outs there were, as he never ran towards third base and instead just was standing there on the infield.

I'm still fuming about this. And I'm a Muffinstuff supporter. Inexcusable.

...he was clapping his hands. ><

I'm over Murph. I used to think I'd be sad when he's gone. Not so sure any more.

Wilmer is so painfully slow.

Why was he going there? That I don't understand. No way did he do that on his own.

Meanwhile, Cespedes seems like he's finally recovering from the trauma of Stony Brook alum Tom Koehler's savage attack.

They should be up about 5-0 in this game, and Niese just had the 'narrow escape' inning which often precedes his 'meltdown' inning.

He doesn't look mopey yet, but he does look disinterested.

4 pitch walk to start the 4th. And then a single.

Very nice.

When I saw 5 pitches and 3 ground outs in the first I thought KOOL, Niese is on. He really needed the groundball there and he got it.
And another to close the frame.

Niiiiice.

I had read what TC said, but it's not the same as seeing him say it. Because of his tone. I think his response to the media there was perfect. Cudos.

5 hits including a 2B & HR plus 3 BBs in 4 innings should equal more than just 2 runs.
But two outs on the base paths and, once again, only one hit w/RiSP and even that one didn't score a run.

Well, at least it appears that Cespedes has found his stroke again.

Re: what G K & R are discussing -- There's a quote floating out there somewhere about the new generation of players playing only for money, etc. It was spoken by Ty Cobb in the '20s.

Which isn't to say that the topic they're discussing is meaningless, but the idea that the attitude just changed with the present crop is as old as the game itself.

Niese will leave the game after 6. I'm not liking this and neither does the Mets booth.

Ugh. Why would they pull Niese at 88 pitches? Blister?

Oh, it wasn't official?

I was AFK a few so I missed all this.
