This. I have great respect for Chipper; he damn well earned every boo we gave him, but he was never obnoxious, never rude, and in retirement, has been a great dude. I'm all in on Larry.

I had no love for Chipper in the late-90s, but I have really warmed up to him. He's hard not to like now that he is not tormenting me with nearly every AB.

Never offended either.
I've had numerous experiences over the years with non-New Yorkers assuming that NYC sports fans rooted for all NYC teams, it seems odd to them when told that's NOT the case.
And I certainly don't expect some dumb jock to be up on things.

Besides, if we can't have zingers in pro sports where are we supposed to get them? I'm all for sportsmanship and the like but there's also a danger in becoming too nice.

There's nothing wrong with respecting your opponent, especially in retrospect. Willie Stargell didn't hit all those home runs off the Mets because he was evil. He was a baseball player trying to help his team win. Same with Mike Schmidt and Chipper Jones. And someday I'll be willing to say the same about Ryan Howard.

Funny, I've never had a problem with Howard at all. He always struck me as a likeable player. Utley, Werth, Victorino or Ruiz, however? Not a chance.

I rooted against Chipper, but I'd never, say, feel schadenfreude about a significant Chipper career setback. I think it's the pro-wrestling-loving kid in me, but yeah, I enjoyed our villains.

Victorino and Howard seem like decent people, and by all reports, they are. Utley and Werth radiate "dick," and by many reports, they are.
