The Longest Day ends with Jacob deGrom locking up with Jordan Zimmermann. deGrom went 4-0 / 2.08 over the spring schedule, including giving up three runs in 10 innings against Washington. Zimmerman was a little rockier, going 2-1 / 3.80 over 23.2 innings, without pitching against the Mets. Most of the damage came in his last start, giving up eight runs (seven earned) in four innings against Miami, yielding homers to Mike Morse and Giancarlo Stanton.

Did Tony Larussa take over managing the Mets when I wasn't paying attention?

i'm fine with it, except i don't get Lagares/6 and Flores/9. I would flip-flop those two, so you get some speed in front of the top of the lineup.

I guess their idea with Uggla is to give him every chance to show what he has while Rendon is out. Espinosa is a similar high-power/low-average hitter although a MUCH better fielder, but they probably figure they know what they have in him while Uggla gets from now until the bodies (Rendon, Span, Werth) start getting healthy to show why they shouldn't just dump him. Unlike the Braves last year, the Nats aren't committed to any money beyond the ML minimum.

In the meantime, let's hit it to him a lot.

As far as game two of the season goes, historically speaking, the Mets are 27-26.

This game is in a rain delay, starting time moved up. It's very damp and bone cold out there.

Zimm takes deGrom deep & the Nats lead, 2-0.

That wasn't a horrible pitch.

Back to back singles by Muffy & Lags and the chant of LETS GO METS fills the night air.

Ugh. But now the home plate ump sucks, rings up Grandy. That was close, it dipped down at the last sec, but I do believe that was a tad high.

2-1 Washingtinians

Duda hits a bullet...for an out. that was a textbook example of why the shift is depressing runs.

Twas.

deGrom K's Zimm with two on to end the 3rd.

Jacob looks like he's having a problem getting a feel for the ball. He's pitching well, but he looks uncomfortable. Maybe it's just the cold.

Damn. Great play by Zimm steals a leadoff single from Grandy.

We need the LONG BALL. OOO, Wright swingin' for it.

Damn that Harper. No one else cuts that from finding the gap. Holds Wright to a single.
