Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Dan Warthen, offering a public apology for his tragicomic use of the word "Chinaman." Made ESPN's list of top stories.Good thing the media isn't keeping track of my denigrating comments. They'd have locked me up by now.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Maybe his and Daisuke's "special relationship" is that Matsuzaka's a little bit of a masochist.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Dan Warthen always struck me as a character out of Mayberry RFD.
Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Didn't a Mets scout get fired years ago for some Asian insult? These guys don't learn.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Do I have the timeline right? That this only came out because he attempted to apologize in front of a reporter?
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 If it made ESPN's top stories I know it must not be one, and will continue to ignore it.

It's that he apologized for using the word by using the word again, in front of a Chinese-American reporter. The original incident, if there was one, is unclear.Odd.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Idiotic on a number of levels. Glad he apologized. Hope he and others learn something from it.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Okay, okay, Warthen said something dumb and awful. But should this even have been reported? It's an overheard comment in the clubhouse, with no inherent news value; you might as well report on the porn Niese is checking out on his iPad, no?
