Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 It was moderately popular last year, so we'll try it again this year. IPP stands for Individual Player Predictions. These will be threads where we share our expectations of how a player will perform in the current year. Feel free to make your predictions as specific or as vague as you like. (You can find a listing of the 2013 IPPs here.)Travis d'Arnaud had a bit of seasoning in the big leagues last year, and is still eligible for Rookie of the Year in 2014. It would be fun to have a contender in that category. The Mets haven't had a top rookie since the back-to-back wins of Darryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden in 1983 and 1984.I doubt that it will happen though. The buzz is that Travis needs to break out in a big way this year, but I don't think he will, and that won't necessarily be a disaster. Assuming he stays reasonably healthy, I think he'll hit about 10 homers, .250.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I'll add 40 points to his BA but otherwise I agree with Vic.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 126 games, 520 PA, .269/.345/.429, 58 R, 14 HR, 61 RBI
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 500 PA .280/.333/.407 12 HR, 29 2B. Third place in rookie of the year voting.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I would take any of these predictions. I'm a bit more pessimistic..240 BA, .320 OBP, 11 HR, 75 RBI
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I bet my brother-in-law that he'd hit 15 homers, so he'd better..255 16-55. Nothing flashy, but good enough.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 .276, 14 HR, 69 RBI> app 130 games28 doubles.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I d'know what to make of him ... my guess is disappointment.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 You guys are really high on this guy. I'm kinda low till he shows me something..239/.312/.390 8-45
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Higher on the contact skillz than the powa..277 / .336 / .399 // .735.11 homers.Power will come, but probably not in year one.I invented this exercise, but I hate it. Any time I post sober thoughts, I want to beat myself up. Fman has the right spirit with this..364, 39 homers, 134 RBI, adopts a dog off of death row, hits the gossip pages with Jennifer Lawrence, writes a bestselling book of poetry, solves the D.B. Cooper case, and publishes an unimpeachable exposé of Derek Jeter's PED use.Travis d'Arnaud will bring industry back to AMERICA. (This will be in year two, however.)
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 This year, d'Arnaud will: * shower in vodka and feed his baby shrimp scampi* go public with his own buttocks and make seven million* hunt down and kill all four members of the Banana Splits with a machete* grow a toenail on the end of his penis* breast feed John Madden* have his foreskin used as a tarp when it rains at CitiField* wear a live rattlesnake as a condom* give a handjob to a manta ray* eat a homeless person* shed his skin* scissor kick Angela Lansbury* jump off the Empire State Building and only sprain his ankle* fully digest a turtle shell, like an alligator* put on a white tie and tails and walk his cobra through the park on a leash* use his own thigh as an anvil* use the Shroud of Turin as a washcloth* kill Shaquille O'Neill with a trident* Drive an ice cream truck covered in human skulls* make every woman that sleeps with him refer to him as Bear Bryant* eat the Bible while water skiing* have sex with a cigarette machineHere's to d'Arnaud! Then in 2015...
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 I can't remember the last time I saw a cigarette machine!
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I can....$1.85 for a pack of Kents
Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I kind of liked the Banana Splits. I hope he dispatches Snork swiftly and painlessly.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Travis will spend emough time in the minors to miss all projections.Sandy never planned for this event unless Taylor Teagarden is your guy...
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I'd also like to retroactively predict that Darryl Strawberry will return to the minors after his slow start in 1983 and spend a good chunk of the season down there. #GoMikeHoward!
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 You are likely look foolish on this one....
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Well, since you aggressively and repeadedly predict failure for just about everyone, perhaps you can tell me how looking foolish feels.
