Who opens the season as the Mets main firstbaseman? Davis? Duda? Satin? Flores? Some dude not currently in the system?2. Who opens the season as the Mets main shortstop? Tejada? Quintanilla? Tovar? Seratelli? Flores?3. The Mets opened the season with two entrenched outfielders and then went out and signed two more, both versatile. Bad news for somebody, right? What will the regular alignment be come April 1?4. Barring injury, Bartolo Colon, Jon Niese, Dillon Gee, and Zack Wheeler look to open the season as members of the Mets rotation? Whos's number five? Pretty much a huge field to pick from: Matsuzaka? Mejia? DeGrom? Torres? Lannan? Montero? Syndergaard?5. Backup catcher?

Bad news for somebody, right? What will the regular alignment be come April 1?Eric Young in left, Chris Young in center, and Curtis Granderson in right. (I'm hoping, however, for C. Young-Lagares-Granderson.)4. Barring injury, Bartolo Colon, Jon Niese, Dillon Gee, and Zack Wheeler look to open the season as members of the Mets rotation? Whos's number five? Pretty much a huge field to pick from: Matsuzaka? Mejia? DeGrom? Torres? Lannan? Montero? Syndergaard?Mejia.5. Backup catcher?Teagarden.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 10, 2014 Author Posted February 10, 2014 I like Bucket's notion that the outfield will be multi-position platoons moving across all three positions. But is Terry willing to be that creative?
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Projected opening day 25-man roster (lineup, bench, rotation and bullpen):SP1.Niese [L]2.Colon3.Gee4.Wheeler5.MejiaRP1.Parnell2.Black3.Rice [L]4.Torres5.Edgin [L]6.Reid7.FamigliaLineup:1.C.Young (lf)2.Murphy (2b) [L]3.Wright (3b)4.Granderson (rf) [L]5.Davis [L] / Satin (1b)6.Legares (cf)7.Drew (ss) [L]8.D'Anaud ©bench:1.Recker ©2.Satin (if/of)3.Seratelli (if) 4.Duda (1b/of) [L]5.E.Young (2b/of) on the bubble: OF- Brown, Nieuhenheis, dDekkerIF- Flores, Lutz, Tovar, Quintanilla, TejadaC- Centeno, TeagardenSP- Matsuzaka, Lannan, deGromRP- German, J.Walters, Farnsworth, Sokolovichso based on this projection:1. Who opens the season as the Mets main firstbaseman? Davis - Satin will get some ABs at 1b, too, but Davis will win the job in ST.2. Who opens the season as the Mets main shortstop? Drew - I think they'll sign him and send Tejada to AAA and give Seratelli a shot as the backup. 3. What will the regular outfield alignment be come April 1?C.Young - Lagares - Granderson - with E.Young as a 4th OFer behind C.Young and Legares (Granderson will play every day, with Duda and Satin mostly serving as IF/PHers, but filling in the OF on occasion)4. Mets 5th starter? Mejia - unless he's still not back from injury, in which case it's wide open, with DiceK getting 1st crack.5. Backup catcher?Recker - Teagarden is no better, and Recker is already here.

I think he has the right mind set and tools to be really good in this role.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 10, 2014 Author Posted February 10, 2014 I really don't see Brown getting quite so many appearances to qualify for the title of "platoon partner" with Grandie, but I guess he'll help out there.

We need Grandy in more than out. But I figured he meant backing up Grandy in right will be Browns priority. I like it when someone looks a little ahead because the best laid plans...blah x3.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I'm going with Vic's answer ... and no, I'm not being lazy.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I wasn't really suggesting strict rotations, just roles. In all honesty I think they will prolly go E Young - C Young - Grandy to begin, hope Lagares hits in AAA, then bring him up in CF and move CYoung to left.

The Mets may not have a regular OF by April 1. In fact, I'd say they likely won't. I'd guess that they'll work four, maybe five guys into the rotation until things hopefully settle in place. Unless they don't settle. Or at least, don't settle into an OF where three guys get most of the starts.I can't answer the other questions -- from apathy. I don't know if I care enough to even guess at this. Davis or Duda? I don't care. I assume that whoever of the two is playing better is the one that'll play. What more can I ask for? Whoever gets to play is who I'll watch. That's my answer to all the positions. I'm also sick up to here with all this Stephen Drew speculation, if anyone wants to know. You'd think the Mets were on the verge of signing Bryce Harper and Mike Trout. Every single day. More posts. Are the Mets gonna get Drew? Is he coming? Is he not coming? Is he coming? How good is Drew? How good will he be tomorrow? Is he coming? Can the Mets afford him?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 10, 2014 Author Posted February 10, 2014 That's some committed apathy. Over 200 words.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 1. Duda2. Tejada3. Granderson-C. Young- with E. Young and Lagares splitting time4. They start the season with an extra reliever, Matsuzaka or Lannan comes up and makes a few bad starts once they need a 5th starter, Mejia gets his shot but ultimately ends up in the pen by mid-May, and Montero makes the most starts of anyone not named above by Edgy (Colon, Niese, Gee, Wheeler)5. Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 1. Davis, nominally, will be the ST starter/April shower (shopping display?). But Duda gets some starts, Satin gets some starts, FLORES gets some starts. Everybody gets a first base start!2. Like '80s puzzlers, we'll be Ruben.3. Not-so-firm firm of Granderson, Lagares, Young and Young, with some work by para-decent Andrew Brown. (Den Dekker hanging out on the casino floor.)4. Considering what they did last season, why isn't Torres getting more daps in this race? But, yeah, management wants Mejia, and unless his elbow does untoward things, his talent should see him through. 5. Never promised us a Teagarden, but that's who we're getting. (If not at season's outset, then shortly thereafter.)
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 1. Duda2. None of the above; they make a move and get someone outside the organization. No idea who, but JCL's idea sounds pretty good.3. Young Young Granderson4. Going out on a limb and say that Mejia will tweak something, Dice K will struggle with his control, and Lannan will have a strong spring. He and his Kristen Chenowith doppleganger wife will make the trip north.5. Teagarden
