Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Kuo Vadis? If you're a Cardinal, going to sit down, most likely. The big guy's through 7, with just four baserunners allowed, nary a scoring-position threat among 'em.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Wainwright's Duke of Charleston is still nasty. Puig? Nastier.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 I'm gonna start a new tradition as a followup to the 7th inning stretch. The 8th inning chuckle.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Beardy's fastball is as under-his-command as his beard is out of it.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Shut up Cal, he's safe, good call.
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Yadier Bleepin' is the Cardinals last hope.
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 The home team wins again.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Yea. Good baseball. Limited games left. They are making it easy to enjoy em.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 A paraphrase from Orel Hersheiser, doing color on the radiocast, "Carl Crawford has no baseball instincts, especially base running."Later
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Look out, Braves-- there's a new Fun Police on the job."Mickey Mouse stuff," Adam Wainwright called it."Mickey Mouse is only an hour away," Gonzalez responded.And... oh, Carlos."As a player, I just think he doesn't know [about how to act]," Beltran said. "That's what I think. He really doesn't know. He must think that he's still playing somewhere else.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 The key point here is:If anything, Puig should come in for censure from his own teammates. He admired his home run, which is inexcusable if it's anywhere close to not leaving the yard. This one didn't, and if not for Beltran misplaying the carom in right, Puig could have cost his team an extra base or even an out. "Obviously, I'd like to see him run right away," Don Mattingly said. It was a clear fuckup, but not a disrespectful one, and the Cardinals should hope he does it every time. That should be the issue here, and Beltran could have prevented Puig's histrionics by making a clean play and throwing the fucker out at 3b.I don't have much use for the chronic me-ism of the current ballplayer, showboating being just one indicator of it, but i have even less use for those who bitch and moan about violations of the "unwritten rules" instead of just outplaying the arrogant selfish pricks and beating them on the field with the kind of professionalism they claim to prefer. If Puig can't cheer, then Beltran can't whine if he fails to throw him out. How's that for an unwritten rule?
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 If the Dodgers keep pissing off these joyless scolds, I might start to like them.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 additional quotes from beltran shed perhaps more light on his opinion..."When you try to do those things sometimes, you know, you get that attention," Beltran said. "And you don't want to wake up nobody. I always thought if you hit a home run off a pitcher, you've got to make him believe he made a mistake. You don't wake him up. Or next time, the pitcher's going to be more focused with you and he's going to try harder to get you out. "So he will learn. I don't think he's a bad kid. I just think he doesn't know right now."...and for what it's worth, i think it's valid, if if does somewhat feed into a sports cliche. don't give the opponent bulletin board material, or they'll try extra super hard to beat you. instead of the only just kinda trying to win that they're doing now, in the playoffs, i guess....
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Not for nothing but the whole Deadpin take on these stories is about as "coppy" as the behavior it seeks to condemn. It's not hard to see one can play spirited and like a sportsman at the same time.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 A bunch of millionaire ballplayers with unwritten rules of etiquette...sounds abit fey...
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 It's a testament to what we've seen so far this postseason-- and LCS-wise, specifically-- that it feels more than a little bit weird seeing starters that actually, like, give up hits and runs and stuff.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Nothing like a double play when you need it. Seeing Mattingly- I forgot he never got to the big show. It be nice if he does as a manager.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Jeez, another homer off the top of an outfield wall. That walls got a really thick top there.
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Maybe if the Dodgers win they'll celebrate by peeing in the Anheuser-Busch beer in St. Louis. No one will notice the difference
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 So nine months after your birthday, you're an old 22.PINTO BURNS EM!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 If I were Mattingly I'd be Punto-ing Punto's ass all over the dugout right now.
