on the 7/26 game, i had harvey down for 7.4 schaefers, but, of course, had to tamp him down to fit under hte limit.
buck was the greatest beneficiary, seeing his total boosted from 1.0 to 1.6 schaefers.

Okay, I'll hold off for a little while longer. While you and m.e.t.b.o.t. are in Schaefer mode, you might as well do the two Florida games too.

m.e.t.b.o.t. is in a quandary.

for the july 28 game, no metropolitan generated a positive WPA as shown by fangraphs.com.

in the game in question, there were, of course, two net-positive performances - those of metropolitan relief pitchers bobby parnell and josh edgin. each pitched a full inning without allowing a run. this of course resulted in some infinitesimally small increase in the probability of the metropolitans winning the game, but that increase is less than the degree of accuracy to which fangraphs can present the data.

so its possible that each player generated something less than +0.0005 WPA but greater than exactly and mathematically zero.

m.e.t.b.o.t. will therefore be presenting the data as if each of these players generated 0.00025 WPA, good for 0.01 schaefers each. this will effectively act as a zero vote for all players, while still mathematically counting as a vote by m.e.t.b.o.t.

The important question is how much beer does that translate into? A pinhead? They still get some beer, right?
No matter. We accept your judgment. The last thing we need is you blowing a fuse.

And two for Quintanilla!

For him sometimes the contrast between his ability and what he does will net him some nice points.

Byrds only valley was around May and other than that, all peaks. Could consistency be working against him? Is what he is doing not contributing to wins?

There is no doubt at this point that he's the teams offensive MVP. No slouch in the field either.

Byrd has received plenty of Schaefer points this year. He's among the team leaders and has a real shot at winning the coveted Player of the Year award.

Was just looking into that now. Very interesting.

not that the 'bot and i are the definitive metric against all else should be judged, but i've got byrd as my #3 schaeferrific player, behind both wright and murphy.

player (marathon|m.e.t.b.o.t.)
wright (67.4|80.92)
murphy(65.7|74.99)
byrd(55.5|65.47)

note that this includes the totals for some games which we may have missed out on voting for.

why such a big difference between marathon votes and 'bot votes? well, the little guy is brutally hard on starting pitchers. but, then, so is WPA. partly because they suck at hitting.

wright is at +2.24 WPA for the season. harvey is at +2.80 as a pitcher, but -0.77 as a hitter.

Gee is getting less beer from me than an 7-inning shut-out would normally deserve on account of his shitty bunting.

Now that you mention that I should have factored that in but I didn't. Once Ill let ya slide, but twice...?

I normally would have given him more beer for 1 run (which was due to Rice allowing his inherited runner to score) over 7 innings.

Shitty bunting aside, though, it was a strong pitching performance. And Terry should never have had him start the 8th - without that, he might have had the win.
