When voting, be careful not to mix up the twin 2-1 wins over the Yanx. Would make for some strange results if you did.

On the Monday game, yeah Valdy walked and later scored the eventual winning run, but it was Baxter's leadoff 2B that got it all started and he's getting snubbed in some votes. Giving more points for Jordany in this case seems to me to be voting the stat (Run Scored) rather than the contribution and Bax certainly doesn't deserve any demerits for getting thrown out at the plate on Tejada's grounder. It was the right chance, great slide, almost made it. But his hit was like Murph's in the 2nd game ... only without the part where he got robbed in every other AB

Use these Shaefer things as you see fit if you want Mr. Grimm. This one was too big to stick in the IGT. I have to shrink one down for that.
I can also change that to say week, month, etc.
And why are her fingers crossed?

i'm really surprised no other sixes are showing up for gee. i mean, the dude k'd twelve mfy's, with four hits, no walks and only one run scored. plus, who the hell expected that out of him at this point? he didn't even have to pick up a bat to degrade his overall contribution! his game score (for whaterver weight you give such a thing) of 79 marks it as the best met start to date by someone other than matt harvey, and harvey's only had two better by that metric.

i think he's getting undervoted, if just a little.

the 'bot and i both had him at over six points. 6.2 for me, and 6.11 from my little automaton.

" plus, who the hell expected that out of him at this point?"

Except that I don't want to go casting votes on someone based on expectations.
A 2-hit shutout from one guy should be worth just as much as a 2-hit shutout from someone else regardless of prior track record (assuming everything else is equal which, of course, it never is).

So you can make an argument for more points for Gee, I just wouldn't use the expectations one.

well, i certainly don't use that as an argument, i just figured, well, its certainly possible that some of us do use level of expectation (either for position, usage or player) as a baseline against which to consider their performance, so i thought i'd throw it out there.

i also think, and it's entirely based on anectodal evidence of my faulty memory, that we tend to vote aboslutely for pitchers and then relativistically for position players. ie "this performance from a pitcher is worth 5.2 points, so that leaves me with 4.8 points to divvy up between the position players."

i think all players should be rated on a the relativistic scale ie these five guys made positive contributions. and that guy contributed 60% of the total, so he gets 6 points, even if that total is less than what some other guy did in some other game and only got 4 points.

the frame of reference is the game, and the scale is "amount positively contributed."

please place the above in my agenda advancement file. thanks kindly.

The only reason I gave him less than six points was because he only went 7.1 innings.

This, pretty much.
If Rice got a rest Gee would have gotten more from me. To me that would have been significant . I realize that it's not his fault he was pulled earlier than he had to be, but that's the way it goes.

I do start by awarding points to the starter and then base things off of that, but by no means do I stick to that original score if I see that the night's offense deserves a little more or if the relievers do, etc. I just use it as a starting point.
In this case I didn't start off with 6 points and then subtract based on the idea that if I start awarding 6 for 7-inning/1-run outings there's no place to go for those 9-inning shutouts.

It's rare for me to award six point to a starter. I did so for Johan's no hitter and one of Harvey's recent starts, but generally I save the 6s for truly superlative performances (and for the most part starts in games without a lot of offense that deserves suds).

Although his point total is lower with each successive week, it's three weeks in a row for Daniel Murphy!
