Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Wow. I just had to cut bait with him on my virtual electronic 2013 Mets too.I'm crazy about that little guy. I visited him a lot during his rehab, too. He didn't say much. Stared into the distance a lot.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Ronny Cedeno DFAed by the Astros, along with Carlos Pena.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 If we are really interested in punishing Tejada we could use RC as Quintanilla's backup, and additional depth in the event we swap out Muffy and start playing Flores in the infield, as suggesting in another thread. That said the Mets'd prolly give that role to Tyrna first.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 i'm at a lost to understand why Terry thinks Tyrna can play SS on the major-league level, for more than an inning here or there. He's got, at most, 1-step range. Although Jeter became a legend that way, so never mind.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 1. Well, maybe that's the plan, to only use him in emergency situations until Tejada finds his way back.2. It's perhaps the same old story. The managerial pool is disproportionately composed of plucky infielders, often with marginal skills (like Terry). They tend to fall in love with/over-rate the value of plucky infielders, often with marginal skills. They are subconsciously redeeming their own careers. It seems like Willie (who was hardly marginal as a player, but seemed to have insecurities of his own) had four secondbasemen on his bench at any given time. If he needed them to pinch-hit or play shortstop, outfield, first or catcher, he was confident they could, because they were part of his part of his plucky breed.it goes beyond that, of course, defensive catchers who were managers can become enamored of defensive catchers. Tony Muser, when he was with the Royals, seemed to always have a defensive firstbaseman, because (I speculate) all he could do in his brief major league career was competently catch the ball at first.

Hadda bat second. Because Willie batted second. Willie Randolph confirmed what another second baseman of his era -- a greater second baseman than Willie Randolph -- already proved -- that you can be a heckuva baseball player and be a total moron about it at the same time.Reminds me of a friend of mine who made millions of dollars in the mortgage business -- and I mean millions -- during the real estate frenzy of almost ten years ago. He was making tens of thousands of dollars every week at his peak and trust me, he's easily one of the dumbest adults I've ever met. And I'm not exaggerating when I say this. To this day, he still can't understand the circumstances that came together to allow him to make all that money in the first place. Not even with hindsight. Not even with all of the post-mortem industry write-ups out there because he reads like a 4th grader. A struggling 4th grader.. He thought it was normal for average starter homes in average neighborhoods to increase in value from $200K-$300K to more than double that amount in less than two years. He thought there was nothing wrong with secretaries earning $45K a year, with no other source of income or cash other than their $45K annual salary to be able to buy $750K homes on the honor system, without having to go through a rigorous financial background check. He still doesn't understand what the hell happened. He listens to the most Nazified right wing nutjobs out there, hearing what he wants to hear until he's worked out some crazy theory blaming the whole downfall on Pres. Obama. He thinks that the solution to all his problems is to have a Republican President in the White House because with a Republican President in charge, the real estate market would return to 2004-2007 levels in a couple of weeks.Oh yeah, today he's broke. Bankrupt.

Klapisch will no doubt soon call for the DH to be eliminated for the Yankees so the Immaculate Mariano can bat and be honored by the fans with soft rain cheers FOUR times during a game and not just the one time as he walks in from the bullpen.Oh, and any pitch Mariano makes contact with shall be deemed a ground rule home run because fans don't want to see a proud reliever flailing away at the plate. (Then again, in that bandbox...) The Greatest Reliever Ever needs to hear the cheers as he rounds the bases. It's good for the sport.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 The home plate ump in last night's Yanx/Rangers game certainly didn't want to see any pitch Mariano threw have to undergo the indignity of being called a ball.I didn't watch the entire game obviously so I don't know whether Kerwin Dantley had a wide strike zone all night, but he certainly did not when Joe Nathan was walking Vernon Wells to start the Yanx rally in the top of the 9th but suddenly did when something named Leonys Martin was PH-ing in the bottom of the inning. Poor dude never had a chance as he K'd looking on four pitches, not one of which was in the strike zone.

Perhaps somebody down there remembered Strom gave up four runs to the 'Stros on September 2, 1972, departing in the third inning of his fourth major league start, setting the stage (as it were) for the greatest comeback in Mets history. Strom and Bob Rauch buried the Mets at 0-8 on that Saturday night at the Astrodome yet Yogi's yoinkers yoinked it back to win it, 11-8.The Astros are in an something akin to an 0-8 hole right now, so to speak. Good luck Brent.
