Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, AUGUST 2012The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for August 2012 is R. A. DICKEY. This is R.A.'s second time as Player of the Month in 2012 and his third time overall. It's also his ninth time as Pitcher of the Month, tying Johan Santana for the most Pitcher of the Month awards in Schaefer history. R.A. has now won the award in seven of the last eight months. (His record-setting six-month streak was broken last month by Jon Niese.) Dickey was 3-2 in August with a 2.00 ERA in 45 innings and six starts. It was his complete game shutout on August 31 that put him ahead of runner-up Jon Niese, who also had a strong month, with a 2.61 ERA and a 3-3 record in six starts and 41.1 innings. Third-place finisher Ike Davis was the leading position player in August, slashing .287/.370/.517 with a team-leading 5 home runs and 14 runs batted in. The Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is a second-time winner, JON RAUCH, the first Mets reliever to win twice in 2012. Rauch had a 0.93 ERA in 14 games (9.2 innings). He had no wins or losses, but did have two saves. The Schaefer Mets Bench Player of the Month for August is RONNY CEDEO. This award is perhaps more quirky than any other, especially in August, a month when very few points were awarded for position players who were not in the starting lineup. Nevertheless, Ronny Cedeo earned more such points than anyone else, so he has earned the right to be immortalized on a retro 1972 baseball card. Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Love the r.a. dickey, and the Cedeno. Great work!
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Horizontal Dickey RULES! One of the most perfect issues from the Schaefer series. Congrats on an artistic achievement to BG, who truly blessed the rains down in Africa in August. And kudos to Cedeno, the 1972 version and his contemporary doppelganger, for giving the Mets a little extra boost here and there this year. Didn't see him coming.Rauch deserves his accolades, too, as the bullpen has bounced back nicely from sucking for, oh, years, but I'm a little surprised R.A. didn't win that, too. Just seeing him on the mound late in a game is a relief.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Yeah, this is a perfect issue. I also appreciate the historical context in the presentation. Cool that we may finish 2012 with six different Bench Players of the Month. (I'm calling September for Jason Bay.)
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2012 Author Posted September 6, 2012 Thank you, everyone!I'm almost out of available 1970s cards for R.A. Dickey. I've now done 1970, 1971, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, and 1978.All that's left is 1973, 1979, and 1972 in action. If he keeps winning I may have to expand to 1970s football, basketball, or hockey cards.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Great job as always.I'd be ok to see Ike finish in first place for position players for the rest of his 15-20 year Met career.Later

Try different pictures; go with black and white or sepia; play with the template a little.Or go with the hockey -that could be fun
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Is the data still available to retroactively generate Bench Players and Relievers of the Month?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2012 Author Posted September 6, 2012 Yes, for every year except our first year of Schaefer, which was 2005. (The detailed game data got lost in the ezBoard hacking incident.)It's all available at http://potg.leaptoad.com/mets/
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Absolutely PERFECT cards!!!

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2012 Author Posted September 6, 2012 Any card is a bit nicer if Laurie Partridge is on it.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2012 Author Posted September 6, 2012 We already have a 1970 R.A. Dickey. Here's the full Dickey:
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 You've got to find a way to show these to him - I'm sure he'd love them!
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 R.A. makes his own boyhood photos available in his book. I'm sure JCL would loan you his copy for scanning.Or Little Archie, which sounds a little like Little R.A.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Excellent cards Ben. When I opened the thread and saw the 71' Dickey it felt like I went back in time and opened a pack and, WOW!YAY! I got a Dickey!(don't even...) Awesome that you went with the side view type. Instantly reminded me of Buddys card. This image^ is from your blog page MGIM. I enjoyed the story about the Mets baseball cards.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Nuthin' wrong with those Partridge Family suggestions but if you're gonna go with '70's non sports trading cards, these below fit the subject.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2012 Author Posted September 7, 2012 80s cards have no magic for me, but then again, neither do Star Wars or hockey cards.I still have enough wiggle room to get me through any awards Dickey may win in September, and even April and May of next year. I won't face a "crisis" until next June at the earliest. I have plenty of time to ruminate.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 seawolf - that card is making me itch to see Miniwolf's birth announcement card again.
