Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 R.A. Dickey versus Aaron Harang. Harang is 5-4 with a 3.81 ERA and a stupid face. In what will be Dickey's last first half start, he tries to get to 12 wins. How he pitches tonight could make or break whether he starts the All-Star Game, although I'm starting to think he will just given the story. Supposedly the LA media absolutely mobbed him when they arrived yesterday.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 There are some very worthy candidates to start the ASG, I guess this is why people harp on about this start....if he gets shelled tonight I don't think people carry that memory to the ASG, it's the story so far.....for him to get that start would be a story that transcends the game I think, good for baseball.

It's his final start of the first 81 games, but not his final start before the All-Star break, which is the "traditional" (and inaccurate) halfway mark.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Yeah, Dickey's still got another start (likely against Philly at home) before the ASB.Not sure when LaRussa's staff will name a starter, tho...so this start is still a pretty big audition.

TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Oh...and lets shame the Harangutan!
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Thank you, Aaron Harang, wherever you are. I don't mean this flippantly, or obnoxiously. I mean it sincerely. I've never met Aaron Harang, a pitcher for the Padres, but he gives me a lift today and doesn't even know it. Whenever I have a rough outing -- and a I have a brutal one here today -- I have a strange custom: I go on my laptop and surf baseball websites until I find somebody who had an even worse day than me. It's not that I delight in other people's misfortune; it's just that misery does like company, and after my eighth start of the year I am definitely looking for somebody to point to and say, "Hey, this guy's a respectable pitcher and he got lit up too." Harang gave up nine hits and seven runs in four and a third innings against the Rockies. Today he supplies the comfort.I feel less miserable for knowing this.--R.A. Dickey, 5/14/2011, after horrible outing of his own at Minute Maid Park (page 176, Wherever I Wind Up)Dodger clubhouse bulletin board material?
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Why... that sonofabitch called me.... respectable. Let's get him!
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 If this keeps up metirish will be calling for handbags at ten paces.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Hey, lay off Harang. I dig him. I dig him a lot. A lot of people dig him, in fact, and...Oh, wait. Sorry. I mistook him for a shovel.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Ridiculously Acclaimed Dickey should stop writing about how much Aaron Harang sucks and demonstrate it for once with a couple of hits and a friggin shutout. For crissakes already, Mr. Look-At-Me-Everybody-I-Wrote-A-Book. The fuck?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Keep in mind that we've won one in a row at this point and that we're seeing them without both Kemp & Ethier.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Two in a row, no? Final game of the Cubs series?

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 With Abreu and a not-in-the-PCL-anymore Lil' Van Slyke at the corners, they've managed to put together an outfield that neither hits NOR fields anywhere near league average.Donnie Baseball is magic!(Didn't they say last night that Rivera was, like, the ONE guy actually hitting the ball well over the last two weeks?)
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Man, that's a March road game lineup right there. These guys suck/blow.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 I know the bit about Dodgers fans being a late-arriving bunch, but this joint is empty.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Encouraging start against Chimp-Face. C'mon, Sugarpants, put another one in the seats.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Harangutang is one big marshmallow.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Uh oh...Duda and Davis are on base at the same time.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Harang may be the ugliest pitcher since Don Mossi.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Ugh. Big strike zone tonight, as per Murphy's at bat. Swing away, boys.
