Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 The Mets two buy low gamble signings of 2011 face off. Chris Young versus Chris Capuano (9-2, 2.60ERA)
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 I hope we kick Capuano's ass tonight. I mean, I hope the Mets kick everyone's ass but geez, has any pitcher ever gotten more credit for as much solid mediocrity as Capuano gave us last year?He gave up a million home runs, always made the bullpen work hard, had an ERA closer to 5 than 4. One great game and an admirable make-good year returning from injury but that's about it.eff you, Capuano, and all your friends in the media overestimating your alleged good year with the Mets.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 His mediocre 2011 got him 2 years/$10M (2012-13), plus a 2014 option from the Dodgers. So far, it's working out for L.A..The Mets only paid him $1.5M for one year in 2011. I think that it worked out OK for the Mets, too.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted June 28, 2012 Author Posted June 28, 2012 One one hand, good move by Alderson by not giving him a real contract off last year, but maybe he should've traded him or tried to extend him through this year in say July of last year? It's certainly interesting that he signed both these guys and just let them walk and then resigned the one that didn't work out last year.Capuano is the kind of depth signing I was hoping Alderson would make this offseason to limit the Schwinden/Batista/Hefner starts.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 A pox on west coast weeknight games. I get annoyed enough when they lose, but if I have to stay up until 1 AM to see it I get really crabby.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Yeah, the late nights kill me especially if they are losses. But I think I might take in some Vin Scully tonight.

The only perk to the unbalanced schedule is that it minimizes the number of 10 PM starts for the Mets.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 So, is Cedeo still cutting in on Murphy's PT or what?Does Hairston's slam (which, I repeat, was a routine fly at Citi) further complicate the left field platoon? Because I mostly think that platoon should be pretty strict.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 I'd start Hairy and Muffy tonight.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Hairston's platoon differential is substantial and based on an extensive career-long sample size. And, at his age, it ain't going to change. So, I wouldn't start him against RHers, especially when we've got a talented young LHed OFer whose upside is still to be determined sitting on the bench. And Cedeno is a defensive sub, not someone you sit your starting 2bman to play, especially when said 2bman is coming off a 2hr/4rbi game.

Hope he doesn't. He's hopefully past where he has to provide too much coverage for Torres.I really think he's done a good job adding to the PT of improving guys and diminishing the PT of slumping guys, while not burying any body.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 This is a very winnable series. The Dodgers are playing like crap...Capuano has come to earth.I like the late nights a couple times a year. Beats going to bed.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Seriously, the first pitch is still 45 minutes out? The hell, you say.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Wright wrules. If Ruiz gets the batting title Ill be pissed (great yr tho and great catcher..but a Phil). I, of course want Dave to get it, but if he don't, anyone but Ruiz please.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Wow, never thought he'd get him. What a play. Wright wrules.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 That pork loin you overcooked by just a smidge earlier this evening? David Wright would have pan-roasted the shit out of it.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Fun fact: on Dollar Dog night at Dodger Stadium, Rob Reiner is-- for about 90-100 minutes-- actually more hot-dog meat than head.
