Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 (edited) I'm sure this will go over well with religious conservative pundits. Not that I care what they think, but the Mets should be a little more aware of what will lead to a PR battle. Edited May 11, 2012 by Guest
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 not a fan of this one. I liked the Buddy Alderson one though.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 If the weather looks nice Tuesday, I may try to sneak out to the park.

Guest attgig Guests Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I like it too. very clever. damn wish i lived in ny. I'd be going out for all these shirts. they're pretty awesome.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I guess I can be glad that they didn't spell it "Citi."
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2012 Author Posted May 11, 2012 Is it? I may not have much of a nose for blasphemy, but this doesn't seem like it would fall into that category. (Is that an actual unaltered biblical quote? I guess I could look it up if I was motivated.)I know that it's a play on words on Deuteronomy, and while I have no idea who or what Deuteronomy was, unless he was some kind of a god (unlikely in a monotheist religion) I can't see how playing with his (or her, or its) name is blasphemous.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Atheists might be less than crazy about that shirt.

I was failing at making a pun.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I wonder if/how much say Duda had in all of this. You'd like to think the team cleared it with him first. He's certainly not the publicity-seeking sort; have no idea if he's at all religious or that whether his religious beliefs/not would affect him giving his OK to this project.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I doubt it. I figure it's 50/50 that he doesn't even ever year of it. it's like 350 shirts in the left field landing and the beat guys generally ignore this kind of thing so it's not like he's going to be shown it.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 (edited) I'm not offended by it (FD: am probably what you'd call a raised-Catholic agnostic-with-atheist-inflections... if you're feeling generous). It's just... odd. From going with Deuteronomy-as-punchline to "blessed in the field" for a man who might as well field without a glove... it's just really, really odd.So odd, if I happen upon cheap tickets, I'm jumping on 'em. Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I am offended. I demand they send me a shirt.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 CF's offended by the shirt and he wants one as evidence, preferably in a medium.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 this atheist wants to burn one in protest; please send me the XXL. thanks.
