Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 and not freaking on TV. how lame and un-american is that? Gonna gameday Audio on the way to work in the car via my phone for my fix.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 9 AM tape delay on MLB Network...because the kind of people who would be salivating for this live shouldn't be superserved by a network presumably designed to superserve them.

Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Attendance 45,000 (most of them probably on Soma judging by the lack of noise).duan wrote:and live on demand here in a different continent again. we're headed for extras.Clearly the Office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball no longer believes it viable to market baseball to Americans.
duan Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 well i have it in the background in work rather then anything else. just seeing that caught stealing there - do 2b/ss ever wear shin guards?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Even the 'Extra Innings' package - which usually starts both the first and second halves of the season with a free week of games for everyone - hasn't kicked in to pick up this game.
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 If only you guys knew what you were missing: Bottom of the 10th An error followed by caught stealing. In other scores:Sri Lanka 318 & 214England 193 & 111/2 At stumps on Day 3.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 M's get two in the top of the 11th to take the win and tack on further proof (as if anyone needed any) that 'Moneyball' doesn't work. One down, 2,429 to go.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Mariners have a good chance to hold down first for a week at least.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I guess so, then. In my experience, it's not typically the pretty good dinks that get you at second, it's either you get out of the way or get a traumatic injury. Black or white.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 and so begins the first season in over a decade where i don't have a fantasy team. i hope i don't regret it. i doubt i will.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Tomorrow's game gonna run live on MLBN at 5 AM ET.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 What were they running this morning at 5AM, primary coverage?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 It was like yesterday's Baseball Tonight or whatever. Could not believe it.

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I watched the game... progress on CBS gameday ticker. Not the same. Fuck Bud Selig in his tele-hole.

Fuck Bud Selig in his tele-hole.Verducci wrote a column citing all of the problems with opening in Japan including numbers which show that teams that play in these games start the season poorly. Nevertheless, Torre's boy said it was worth it because it sells the game. No Tom, it sucks. Today's game started at 2 AM for fans of those teams. How is that fair to them? How is the greater good of the game served by games starting so early? Bud should have listened to Mariners play-by-play guy Dave Sims--he is usually excitable but he (sitting in Seattle, calling the game from a monitor) sounded bored. The A's and M's now resume their exhibition season before really starting the season.Once again, Bud's "vision" for the game contradicts what is best for the fans of the teams but of course, we're irrelevant.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 They should've sent Dave Sims to Tokyo.
duan Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 well the play by play guys being on a monitor says more about the lack of a desire of the mariners television partner to pay then anything else. It definitely did seem a relatively flat atmosphere.

It definitely did seem a relatively flat atmosphere.they cheered Ichiro, and really aren't that invested in the other teams. It seems very star driven over there, at least as it pertains to USA sports. They should at least time these things so the market can watch them. If they'd played an afternoon game, say noon, that's 8pm Pacific time. too small sample size for Verducci's theory to work, not that that every stops him. and this won't disprove him, since the A's and Mariner's are projected to suck so losing games when they get back would be expected. I'm mostly indifferent to the idea. I like spreading baseball, but the execution seems suspect. I was thinking, I wonder how this would fly during the All-Star Break? Fly the team out Thursday morning, play a 3-game series S-M-W or hell, S-M-T with air times at US day time (you know, before the All-Star Game and the HR Derby) Schedule west coast games around the trip to minimize the travel time and make it part of the All-Star Celebration. There's enough players at the game that missing the reps from two teams wouldn't really be a big deal. Make it an Interleague game if you're really concerned, so it's 14-14 in the ASG.
