bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 The Magic Number for clinching 3d place is down to 19.From mlb.com:Mets take on Marlins in finale at Sun LifeBy Evan Drellich / MLB.com | 9/7/2011 1:58 AM ETR.A. Dickey might give the Mets a leg up in Wednesday's rubber match with the Marlins at Sun Life Stadium.New York's knuckleballer, a winner of two straight, hasn't allowed an earned run to Florida in two starts this season, with 13 strikeouts in as many innings. The trajectory of that floater, though, should at least be fresh in the Marlins' minds: Dickey last faced the Fish two starts ago, throwing seven innings in a 2-1 Mets win on Aug. 29 in New York."He had everything going for him today," Marlins manager Jack McKeon said afterward. "Give him his due. He pitched a good game."For Florida, left-hander Brad Hand is set to make his 10th start of the season in place of Clay Hensley, who has been moved back to the bullpen. Hand is to be in the rotation for the remainder of the season. The 21-year-old Hand was the loser in a 5-3 loss to the Phillies on Sept. 2, going five-plus innings and allowing four runs -- three earned -- on four hits and three walks."For the most part I was ahead in the count, which helped, and then in the fifth and sixth innings I started getting behind and that's when I started getting hit a little bit," Hand said. "That's been the biggest thing all year, and throwing off speeds for strikes."At stake in Wednesday's game is a season series win for the Marlins. They've won nine of the 17 meetings so far.

Joe Janish told me to be optimistic for a miracle run. I was about to tweet it last night 'if the scores tonight hold up' and then Parnell blew it..anyway, as @oddmetsjerk pointed out, the Mets are still alive in the division race too. (4) and I need to be more optimistic.
