And after that ask everybody else.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 These photos on the cards can't be accurate, right? Games one and two were in Atlanta. These were the first ever playoff games. Could they have done a freaky thing like wearing home unis on the road for that? Topps was usually accurate on these types of cards as far as I know. Photos of the 69 NL playoffs, esp the Atlanta games, seem very rare.

Just looked at PDF of Times coverage and everybody's wearing home and road as you'd expect at Atlanta Stadium, October 1969. (Plus I remember very clearly the Mets in their road uniforms that day, having just made the discovery at six years old that my team wore something different and were greeted not that fondly when they played away from Shea.)

But you can see clearly the Mets are dressed for the road and the Braves are surely at home.

It would have to be a real good pic if I'm gonna colorize it. So far I got this for game one of the playoffs. This photo is from a mid season game vs. Pittsburg, IIRC. Life magazine did a pictorical. It could pass although Seaver was not on the mound for the final out.Ron Taylor capped this game with a 2 inning save (final 1-0). I wish I had a good photo of him in action to use. He pitched some crucial innings in the post.batmagadanleadoff wrote:You're now the set designer, so apply your fantasies So this has evolved into something else. I intended just to update the 70 cards to new color pics. Then thought of adding a few new cards. Now I'm thinking why not just make a whole set of cards that tell the story of the post season. Twenty or more cards. What the hell, why not? If I do this up right I should include card backs that tell the story the photos depict. Is anybody interested in doing the write-ups for the card backs? Instead of a boxscore and stats on the back (maybe one card should have that for each game) there will be a description/details of the action. The typical baseball card kind of write-up. I'll give credit to anyone who wants to get involved. I figure to make a blog or some kind of set up to display these.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I knew Aaron had a good playoff series but I forgot how good. Homered in every game.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Almost done the playoff cards. The card backs will look something like that.^Scrapped the first Seaver for an action shot I photoshopped.I'll display the cards on this blog I whipped up. http://metsfantasycards.blogspot.com/Grimm or anyone else who makes cards and wants to display them on the Met fantasy card blog thing are welcome to.And now we return to our regularly scheduled baseball cards.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 We've been playing in the 1969 sand box a bit too much Z, lets see cards that never were for the 1986 postseason!I'd guess if Topps did a set it would be like the season highlights design in the 1987 base.

The thing that got me started was turning the 70 Topps post season cards from black & white into color. I will complete that eventually and move up the post season history of the Mets through cards as well as other random Met fantasy cards. Colorizing and card backs are slowing me down but I will keep that blog up and try and add a few cards a week. I have not even begun to post the 70 post season fantasy cards there yet.Right now I'm looking for pictures of Bud Harrelson (gm 1 triple) and Ron Taylor (need both in road uniforms) in hopes of adding two additional cards to the playoff set.

But with the cards I can see adding to it as time goes by so it's a kool way to get em out there. I'd be happy if the people that are interested in this kind of thing run into it. Other than that it's just a fun thing to do.

I appreciate any input, criticism, info, material and involvment. I agree with what you said above but Im not finding any of that type from the set online. I see these, which can work, maybe very well. Change that slant 86 record breaker to read 86 world series.I'll still try and preview the cards here if no one minds. So you don't have to go there to see em. What I'd like to do is start in 62 and work my way up, but I don't know if that's feasible in a blog type format. Cause I do want to get the 69 post season cards up there asap. Can I put posts in the order I desire on a blog, or are they simply listed in the order they are posted? Two 62 Topps cards for Gil, one to offset the awful picture they used on his regular card (in progress) and this created one, which, come-on, shudda been a 62 card. Any other suggestions for 60s fantasy Met cards (esp 62 since I'm doin that now)would be appreciated. I have a '64 Topps Met Rookies card that I want to put two Mets on. Not just any Met but two interesting ones that were around a bit and maybe were a part of Met or baseball history.

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 That's excellent! Nicely done.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Something just occurred to me. I am not that experienced with Topps card sets that were released in the series format. Did these cards released late in the season reflect mid season changes, or highlights? Because the more I think about it the more I'm thinking cards like the one below would not have appeared until the 1963 set. Same might go for the Gil Comes Home one.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Well, in any case I got it covered.
