can this team find any more ways to make outs?

at least the season will be over in time to trade Beltran and possibly others for value

"something new every night with this team and mistakes, my God"

this is how I remember the dead days of the Howe era.

Smells of Jerry to me. Could the Mets really have hired three straight managers willing to die by the bunt?

You tear yourself apart at night. "Execution, execution! I've got to get these guys to execute!" It never occurs to you that shouln't be calling the play in the first place.

I mean it sucks on so many levels bunting but Jesus you have Thole up there and I trust him to work the count and get a hit even , on this team I want Thole or Murphy up there with a bat looking for a hit......

Just finished watching via tape-delay and I have one thing to say ...

BIFFLE!!!!

This shit would almost be comical if it wasn't so sorry.
You almost have to try to get - what was it, 12? - hits with three of them being doubles plus a HR, plus a couple of walks, plus two SBs and still only manage to score three runs.

In a way, it's kind of amazing, and a morbid reason to watch-- how can the Mets defy the run-scoring odds tonight? A fly out in the first, not bunting in the ninth, bunting successfully earlier... hell, even a good slide from Pagan in the eighth, and at least one run scores. In a way... this final score is a sort of turd-shaped miracle.

In another, more visceral way, it's just a turd.

If a slow guy was at first, I still wouldn't agree but I would understand more. You have one of the best basestealers in the game at 1st and a batter that can slap the ball so hit and run or steal but don't give up one of your 3 precious outs. And why did Turner bat in the 8th instead of Hairston?

I assume they went for the greater likelihood of a run-scoring contact out.

The astros dressed up the win on a silver platter, and the Mets smacked it onto the floor like a petulant child.

At least I got some fun pictures?

Let's count down the unfuckingbelievable moments from the game tonight:

5. Ike Davis strikes out with the bases loaded and 1 out in the first.
4. On a walk/WP in the top of the 2nd, Josh Thole retrieves the ball from the backstop and flips UNDERHAND to Dickey covering at the plate. Had he properly thrown it overhand, they would have had a play.
3. RA Dickey not being able to get a bunt down properly.
2. Angel Pagan bad-baserunning like it's 2008-9 again.
1a. Josh Thole bunting on the FIRST PITCH instead of giving Jose a chance to steal; and
1b. Josh Thole, unable to bunt properly.

This should have been an enjoyable game. I can deal with losses fine but losses where we do incredibly stupid shit are intolerable.

They tried to force things, I'm not sure Pagan's attempted advance was _that_ horrible, and had it been the only blunder of the day maybe you live with it. I'd just finished thinking it was really heads up of him for him to dash home on the preceding pitch when the ball got away on the foul tip, in case it wasn't actually a foul tip.'

Other than the bunt stupidity, i'm unsure if I should be annoyed at Reyes. He's supposed to be well off the bag and ready to dash to second, with or without Thole bunting. It was a pretty damn quick bunt out and i'm not sure Reyes even had time to read that it was in the air and hesitate and get back. I obviously didn't see any replays though.

The problem wasn't that Reyes was too far off the base, it was that, in seeing the 1B & P in front of him for the bunt, he never considered that the 2Bman might be sneaking in behind him and therefore didn't show any urgency to get back until he saw a throw coming his way at which point it was too late.

After reading the descriptions of the game in this IGT, I'm glad I missed this tilt.

Honestly the game itself wasn't that bad as a single entity, it was as a subset of a whole miserable season so far that made it hurt.

I was going to make a joke here, but I think I'll just leave that one alone..especially on Passover. Doubly so since I'm not jewish and actually part German.
