I'll be in attendence tonight. Presumably there will be others, but I'm not positive on that.

The others may not actually be there, but you can bet your bippy they'll be announced as if they were.

They do this across baseball. But only the teams care about the 'sold' over the 'in attendance'. Why can't they give us both?

Actual turnstile attendance is considered by MLB as something they don't want the public or media to have, particularly to contrast with paid attendance figures.

I'm quite sure the Mets do have that information available to themselves at least.

Years ago they separated the "Paid" and "actual" attendance because it mattered as to how the money was divided. And to further complicate things the AL figured their split with the visiting team based on tickets sold vs the NL which did so on bodies in attendance.
The merging of the leagues under the Bud era standardized the two under the 'Paid' umbrella at which point the total number of warm bodies seemed to go out the window.

Yeah. Publishing "No-show" statistics could be very embarrassing at time.

Because we all really think Citi Field had 27k last night and that it wasn't embarrassing? And fans aren't taking pictures of all the emptiness and posting it to Twitter and blogs? It's silly. I understand MLBs all about the secrecy and the don't embed our clips or dare to show them elsewhere OMG! but they're not fooling anyone.

Ahh. good info Frayed Knot.

I wonder if it's something that didn't exist to the extent it does today? Now everyone's a scalper, so lots more tickets go unsold. Also the value of said ticket has made it more of a commodity.

I think a larger pct of tickets now-a-days are sold via season tickets or partial season packages which could contribute to a gap between sold and used.

There's still a difference between widespread knowledge that "paid attendance does not equal actual attendance" and publishing cold, hard statistics that prove it.

Truth? YoungerPooper is, in actuality, a remarkably lifelike ticket-forging machine/bootlegging camera*.

my ticket is fresh from Stubhub. paid $15. It's worth 96*/120/144/168
*I think today's value anyway.

I haven't actually sold a ticket in a while since I haven't really bought in bulk though.

There were empty sections of lower tiered seats last night that looked like a marching band had just exited to take the field.

Fun listening to Gary talk cinema with the jocks.

"You know that movie After Hours with Griffin Dunne?"

"Nope."

Ask him how many times he's seen Porky's, Gary.
