Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 There's a picture that's worth a thousand words!
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Never heard of him, but that photo makes me feel that I know him well.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I hope he leaves that red glove in Houston. Boy the Astros really lost their way with that whole brick-colored scheme. They have got to bring back the spacesuit orange.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Is that a baseball glove or a jai alai cesta?Man, that's big.Later

HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 That looks like a pic of a guy goofing around at an Astros Fantasy Camp.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 A caption for that photo might be:"Hey, how about you tilt the camera and I'll pretend that I'm falling backwards!"
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 This LOOGy needs your help. Which look should he go with?
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Can he look more like Randy Choate?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 LOOGy is a tough thing to pull off. That second shot doesn't even look like the same guy.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 It's official , Mets announce the deal....
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 In a so-called "do nothing" off-season, the Mets are adding a lot of players. There might be a near-record number* of first-time Mets on the Opening Day roster.*Excluding 1962, of course.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid the many signings are more quantity, rather than quality. Time will tell.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Well, yeah, they're definitely quantity. Hopefully enough of them will provide the quality needed for the team to be competitive. I'm both hopeful and doubtful.Byrdak, I think, is the first new player this offseason to come along too late for him to take his alphabetical place in the Expectations of Eleven series.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 The idea is certainly to get quality out of quantity --- the eggs-in-different-baskets thing. I'd certainly rather have three two-million-dollar players than one six-million-dollar one. That's probably true with a good GM or a not-so-good one.

Time will tell.We said that about RA Dickey last year, and we wound up catching lightning. The guys they're picking up all seem to be guys who can contribute, at least.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 To everything there is a season. I'm afraid Tim's season may have come and gone already but you never know.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 As long as one of either Byrdak or Tankersley shows positive signs in spring that carry over to the season, the Mets will be happy. I still wouldn't mind adding one or two more legit relievers, though.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 This has got to be his sister, no?
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 We'll accept any answer except "wife".

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Terry Collins reportedly said today that Byrdak is a "lock" for the bullpen. (Along with Bobby Parnell.)
