Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I figured this year we could switch it up and gather at Darryl Strawberry's joint, you never know, the Man might be there. We usually do this thing shortly after Spring Training begins, but if anyone wants to shout out dates that work (or don't) we may as well start now, so we can be sure to get a good crowd.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I was going to suggest March 20 in Manhattan, because I'm running the NYC Half Marathon again so I'll already be in town....

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 It should definitely be at Straw's. Good call. Accessible by train, too! I'm assuming it's too early to know the TV schedule for ST games?

Guest Kong76 Guests Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Straw's in March is fine with me ... anyone up for a January Virgil's meeting too? The Sat or Sun in that stupid weekendbetween the conference playoff finals and super bowl?

Guest Kong76 Guests Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 I'm good for the 29th at Virgils. The 20th at Straws in March is probably a good spring trainingtv game day, and I got nothing going on, but it's not in St. Lucie. The 6th and 13th are home games. Let's try and pick dates for both meetings relatively quickly so we can calendar them! Can one get to Straw's but subway and then LIRR from Manhattanwithout going to Penn Station? I have never been on an LIRR train in my life.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Then brother, you haven't lived.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 March 6th may be a conflict for us. March 13th definitely doesn't work for us.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Oh, and I don't really care if there's a spring training game onif more people can do the 20th.

Actually, you could probably transfer at Citi Field were it a game day and the trains stopped. Or Flushing Main. (Or at the new east side LIRR access at GCP, just transfer there from the second avenue subway right? :-)(\)Not sure what I can and cannot do personally, I do know the 20th is bad, due to flying back from Port St. Lucie that day.

DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 March 20 will most assuredly be a NCAA men's basketball weekend. Either first- or second-round game, which will definitely take precedence on any Sports Bar television.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Ashie1 & 1a are good any day and looking forward to it.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Where and what is Strawberry's?

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Presuming workable weather/babyhealth/that I won't be attempting to finagle tickets to Dallas/the game because the Jets have made it to the SuperBowl, Virgil's on the 29th seems workable.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Are these things generally with or without kids?
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Mixed bag, no?On weekends, however, like a man after a chili cookoff, I'm strapped to the 'Pooper.

Guest Kong76 Guests Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Families are always welcome, there are often kids at these things. With advance notice, door prize giveaways might even be riggedon occasion if they display Mets' fandomness! **The 29th seems to be good for Virgil's. Please discuss a date for the March thing and let's put a wrapper on it by 1/7! (I'm getting bossy in my old age hee hee)The presentation of the CPF Rheingold Achievement Award willbe given out at the March meeting. The title might be changed this year, but that's for me to know and you to find out nahnahnahnah nah nah.** Not all door prizes are desirable. Juan Samuel will sneak into action on occasion and Vince Coleman. And one year Jeets got a sheet of nine Walt Terrell Tigers' cards!
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 What time on the 29th....during the day-ish?, I would like to go and bring Lorcan...especially if some other kids are going to be there.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Noon, I guess ... lunch! We may have to hang out downstairsfor a short time but that's pretty family friendly and ok so long asno kids belly up to the bar.
