Chilli Vanilli, it's Roy Oswalt.

And that's that.

We're gonna have some West Coast World Series ball.

Hang in there, San Andreas.

Phils fans gotta feel like Met fans a little tonight.

And that thought nourishes me a little. Is that wrong?

No, it's good. The 2-out runs surrendered, the baserunning fuckups, the loss on the road in extras, the Cody Ross... It's all gonna help.

Is Manuel going to hear (has he already?) it for going to Oswalt with Lidge still in his pocket?

Of the many things my Phils fan familiars are kvetching about-- both via text and on Facebook-- that ain't one of them.

Plus, it's not like Oswalt is Dessens. You'd generally RATHER have him in there over Lidge.

Yeah, but Davey Johnson certainly heard it for going to Gooden out of the pen in 1988. That "unfamiliar with relieving/out of his element/not on his usual rest" angle.

Yeah, but Oswalt's usual throw day was yesterday, if I'm counting right (started last Sunday, starting again this weekend if necessary).

And also, we were all a little stupider then.

I'm just saying that it seems like one of those perfectly defensible moves that fans nonetheless use convenient logic to rip the manager for when they don't work.

The only snag in the 'yesterday was Oswalt's throw day' logic is that he had already done his throwing earlier. Usually if you're going to use a pitcher in those circumstances you delay his throwing so as to keep him fresher.

That said, some writers were trying to hang Cholly with the logic that his willingness to use Oswalt clashed with his earlier decision to NOT go with Halladay (and by extension everyone else) on short rest and skip Blanton all together - I guess based on the assumption that if he's going to act desperate he should have done so earlier. I don't buy that.

It was a logical move to go with Oswalt. If the game stays tied for several innings, you'd like to use a starter there. Then, if you take the lead, you bring in your closer.

I just think he should use his better relievers first, while he still has a few batters to hit for them if their turn comes around. Go for a starter when you're ready to use him for a three-four inning stretch --- either for a third inning bailout or an extra inning war of attrition.

If I was a Giants fan, I'd be giddy with anticipation.

If I was a Phillies fan, I'd be filled with nervous apprehension. (I'd also be an ill-tempered thug, but that's another story.)

It just occurs to me that this is the first year in probably four
decades that I haven't seen one pitch of the NCLS live on tv.
A hearty fuck you to the Murdochs and Dolans of this world.

I get the commercial and then get a connection refused error. I
have Cablevision for internet too, maybe it's blocked somehow.

Lineout DP ends the rally, but takes Halladay out of the game.

Post-season baseball here, baby.
