Go, Henry Rollins in Wooly Willy drag!

Ibanez sat down, Joanie-loves-Choochie weasels his way on via HBP, and Gload-- after making a loud liner of a strike two-- goes down swinging.

Dick Torino, for the ballgame.

96 right down the pipe, past a Flailing Hawaiian. That's Sheriff Wooly Willy to you.

Someday I'm breaking into the UMDB and replacing their Jeff Reardon shot with that one.

Dan Shulman, ESPN Radio, just said some compare Jonathan Sanchez to Sid Fernandez. Nice to know we're sort of represented in the NLCS.

And by "we're," I'm willfully ignoring Brian Schneider and Wilson Valdez.

Posted

Sure enough, Sanchez walks in a run. Somewhere El Sid is utterly unbothered.

And Guillermo Mota -- he's up in the Giant pen. He comes in and I revert to neutrality in this series.

It's amazing that networks think those in-dugout interviews help enrich their broadcasts and deliciously ironic when they miss a game-tying, no-hit breaking HR because of one.

Just Fox, really.

TBS was doing those taped/between-inning chats too the other day, as does ESPN during their Sunday Night telecasts - although the purpose of that seems to be to show off how tight Joe Morgan is with whoever they're chatting with.
The bottom line is that those gab-fests are rarely if ever illuminating ["So, your guy looks to be throwing his fastball real good tonight" ... "Yeah, he's throwing his fastball read good"] but the powers at be seem to think they're indispensable to the point where if they wind up stepping on a big live moment so be it.

Things I just realized yesterday:
- Even with the longer series, Barry Zito was once again left off the SF roster for this round. Granted he was the 5th wheel on a team with their pitching but his season wasn't THAT bad and it seems to me he could come in useful if the staff gets in a spot, although I guess they felt like they needed more 'true' relievers and with the rate Bochy's going through his pen they're probably right.
- Cody Ross is one of those lefty throwing/righty swinging oddities.

These morons aren't even happy when they're winning:

Oh, this is glorious. Some highlights:

- Douche in road Phils jersey asking to be punched in the face at :12. Sure enough, someone eventually obliges.

- Smartest guys in the vid are the two seen at :14, wearing their leather football helmets to the game.

- Love the guy at :25, who has apparently picked up his little girl and carried her closer to the fight, I guess to get a better view?

- Security guy with a grey white guy fro? Security guy with a grey white guy fro. (1:34)

Rowand and Renteria... and NO Sandoval?

C'mon, Big Head. Give a brother some FatPanda.

Dan Shulman and Dave Campbell > Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. Eff Cablevision. Eff Fox.

With 4 Ks and 2 baserunners allowed through 3, Matt Cain is Santa Cruzin'.

Unfortunately, so far, so is Ol' Two-Power... who's faced the minimum number of hitters through 3. That's right, he's got a no-hitter so far. No-hitters in the playoffs are rare, so it would be an acheivement for him to match his teammate's no-hitter with a no-hitter of his own.

No-hitter.

Rooting for a team that includes Pat Burrell, Cody Ross and Matt Cain. That team could only be playing one of two teams.

And judging from Renteria's, Rowand's, Huff's and Uribe's presences in the lineup, that team is apparently playing in 2002.

Fine, fine boy, that Ross.

I really have a hard time rooting for Cody Ross but he's doing such a good job dismantling the Phillies that I guess I can overlook it...

Joking aside... I have NO problem rooting for Matt Cain, who's now pitching an official game (5K, 2BB, 2 H through 5).
