batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Well I'll tell you a true story: Show me a picture of John Sterling or Suzyn Waldman, and I probably wouldn't be able to identify either of them.I may know who A-Rod is, but I'm not listening to Yankee radio broadcasts. (I hope this post doesn't jinx the ALCS because I'm rooting for the Yankees (wink wink).)
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2010 Author Posted October 16, 2010 Well I probably couldn't pick Wayne Hagin out of a lineup either (mainly because he's relatively new and is on the RADIO) but that doesn't mean I know nothing about him.Besides, John Sterling has been on NY radio in one form or another for some 40 years now (with breaks in between - he did both Braves & NBA Hawks games in Atlanta for years). He dates back to New York Nets basketball, was an early Islander radio voice (Islander goal, Islander goal was said with the same cadence as Yankees win, Yankees win), and was a sports talk radio host (WMCA) before sports talk radio as a 24 hour enterprise was even a thought in anyone's mind. And Waldman, for all her limitations, is now into her third decade on NY sports radio on two of the most powerful stations (WFAN & WABC) on the east coast. It's fine if these people aren't on your 'Friends and Family' list, but it's also not like you need to be a Yankee fan or part of some geek fan club to know who these folks are.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 I don't know how, from this light comment: "You people know a lot of things about the Yankees", you arrive at this: Frayed Knot wrote:It's ... not like you need to be a Yankee fan or part of some geek fan club to know who these folks are.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Defensive, yes, but only a little more than the cheeky, subtle accusation. It's kind of a logically-following response, really. I live in the Bronx. I know the Yankees about as well as I know my upstairs neighbor the wheedling drunk, or the smell of my block on a summer evening... and I devote as much time to actively following them and their hype-men. If you're in New York, and you follow baseball, they're in the air and everywhere.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I like John Sterling.I also like cheese.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 they're in the air and everywhere.just like the BUGALOOS... but not as cute.

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Striking out with a runner in scoring position. That's Jetership. After all it gives opportunities to other batters in the lineup to drive in a run. He's just that selfless.

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Am I the only one watching this game? Top of the 8th, 2-0 to the Rangers, and Cliff Lee pretty awesome, for the record.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 I'm watching... Cliff, get yer Yanqui-slaying ass back out there for the last six outs!
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Yabbut... October's when the ghosts show up.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 No, I'm with you.Kerry Wood, in for Pettitte, retires the side in the 8th.Cliff Lee BB/9 over his career:4.12.32.63.31.4 (his CY year)1.70.8Nice to know - particularly with guys like Pelfrey - that walk rates aren't necessarily cast in stone early in one's career.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 (edited) Well I certainly don't want to see anyone out there in bottom 9 except Lee.Closer Neftali Perez had a nice season but he's like 12 years old and has been throwing some less than clean innings lately (1.2 IP, 2 hits (1 HR) and [u:1qsdz6kd]5[/u:1qsdz6kd] BBs in post-season) Edited October 18, 2010 by Guest
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Hey Rangers, score some runs here. Just in case.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 'bout time for Vlad to do something
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 (edited) Nice to see Josh Hamilton doing well. I know his troubles are self-inflicted, but I'm pulling for the guy. Especially in this series. Edited October 18, 2010 by Guest
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 I still hate the Rangers for blowing game 1 but they are doing the right thing here.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 Washington had to know they'd walk the ph Murphy to try for the DP w/Molina.Probably should have left Francoeur in just for the defense..... and fat Benjy fucks up the strategy anyway.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Make Joe burn another reliever here. One more knock will do it.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Boo ya! Six-zip, fuck you Bronx.

Obviously a lot different now that it's no longer 2-0
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 This MFY team can't be humiliated enough. Pour. It. On.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 And yet Washington has no one warming up in the pen. Do you think he trots Lee back out there for pitch #123?
