bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Zvon: you're a good dude. No sweat.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2010 Author Posted October 6, 2010 That was almost very interesting.Phillips' tossed bat hit the dribbler up the line a few feet. I saw the ump point to it so he appeared to notice the contact but I'm not sure what the call w/should have been if the bat knocked the ball enough to prevent catcher Ruiz from making the play.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 unfuckin believeablephones ringing of the hook.First two calls were from my bros (Met fans all), so that was okay. Then a buddy who's a Phils fan called and I said unfuckinbelieveable!, then:listen, I gotta get my shit out of the dryer, call ya back.I just did not want to talk to him.lmao.damn.If he says we got a perfect game in the reg season and a no-no in the playoffs and your Mets don't even have one in all their history, I'll run over to his house and pop him one.lolBut he won't say that. he's not a dick. But I know a few Phils fans who are.Note to self:Avoid the dicks.Screen all calls.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 And in the understatement of the day, boy is that Halladay good. Once it became fairly apparent which way this game was going, I was going with history. Maybe a little more overconfidence will seep into the Phillie clubhouse -- and at least the MFYs can't claim the only one of these (sort of) in baseball history.Go get 'em next time, Cincy.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Yanks have a history (once ro twice anyhow) of calling the game if there's a 20% chance of rain and a 100% chance of Halladay. Here's hoping he chews them up if they face each other in the Series.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 This no-hitter will be an afterthought when Cincinnati wins the series.

Have to be up early tomorrow. The Yanks are not gonna make it to the World Series. They just don't have what it takes this year."wtf?I mean, even if you think that in some dark corner of your heart (about your team), do you go around saying it?I guess I'm just not in touch with what it is to be a fan anymore.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Why invest any emotion over a division series? This is the Yankees we're talking about. It's not like he can't jump back on the bandwagon in two weeks if it's still running.

You weren't the only one who felt he was looking at something historic. On the radio during the 4th inning, Dave "Soup" Campbell asked "I wonder if Don Larson is watching?"How prophetic was that?Late
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Here's how detached I've become:I had forgotten that a game was on, but when I remembered, I checked online to see what the score was. I saw it was the 8th inning and there was a no-hitter in progress. And that still didn't motivate me to turn on the TV. I didn't find out that the had gotten the no-hitter until I saw the newspaper this morning.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 I'm done. Every team I wanted to win lost. That's how it went last postseason too, in every single series. So, Yanks over Phillies in 7. There. now that I'm rooting for that, it'll never happen right?I tried to tweet this last night in the 7th but Twitter was borked. "We're going about it all wrong Mets fans. We should root _for_ the no-hitter. Then Halladay's elbow will explode."
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 I hope the Reds can bounce back...but in a short series a dominating loss like this one could have knocked the winning right out of them.

I think the Reds erupt for 10 runs on Friday. I'm hoping that Halladay's pitching has challenged the Reds hitters to really have to step it up, and when the other pitchers aren't as good, and when Halladay isn't as good, they'll be on him hard.I don't care if it's grasping at straws.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Well, we kicked the living shit out of him during his last start of the reg'lars. The Reds should be able to... only he shut them out over 7 2/3 the one time he faced them. And, oh yeah-- his career numbers against them? G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Brandon Phillips breaks up Oswalt's no-hitter right away. 1-0 Not Bad Guys.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 It occurred to me as I was watching the final outs of the no-hitter that this was Cincy's first playoff* game since getting 2-hit by Leiter. That's not a good "streak" to be on.* and, yeah, I know it wasn't technically a playoff game, but it qualifies as first 'extra' or post-#162 game.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 No one-game playoff loser in the divisional era ever took longer to recover than did the Reds, needing 11 years to get over the beating the Mets put on them. (Details here.)Cincinnati: Cooperative with New York's better sporting angels for nearly a half-century.Meanwhile, 3-0 Reds -- eff you other Roy.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Now it's four runs! Get 'em, Reds!
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Phillies waking up. Even worse are those Taco Bell commercials with Girardi and Rivera.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 OUCH. I somehow doubt that was intentional.Watch the umps issue warnings, lol.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 EPIC defensive fail by the Redlegs. Fuck this game.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 These Phillies really give me a late-90s Yankee vibe, and I really don't want to live through that again.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 So maybe lure Pat Gillick out of retirement.Really, such dread. Just you wait and see.

At one point there was something like 7 straight Phils who reached base did so without a hit. Walks, HBPs (3 in a 5 batter span), errors, more errors, plays simply not made, throws to the wrong base, etc.Positively Yanqui-esque.
