Saturday results:

Padres take second straight from Giants. Braves lose again to Phillies.

Padres one behind Giants for N.L. West lead.

Braves and Padres tied for Wild Card.

Sunday scenarios:

Padres win and Braves lose, Padres are N.L. West champs (head-to-head over SFG), Giants are Wild Card.

Giants win and Braves win, Giants are N.L. West champs, Braves are N.L. Wild Card.

Giants win and Braves lose, Giants are N.L. West champs, one-game play-in for N.L. Wild Card between Braves and Padres.

Padres win and Braves win, one-game play-in to decide N.L. West championship, with loser playing Braves in another play-in for Wild Card.

And how delicious would that be?

I guess I've got root for the Padres, but (1) they intimidate nobody as a postseason opponent, and (2) it's kind of hard to see Cox go down in a fold under fall foliage.

I'm rooting against the MFY's, Phillies, and Braves, in that order. I would love to see Atlanta get bounced in game 162 on a blown Billy Wagner save.

Putting it that way makes a Brave bedshit appealing, otherwise, I could get behind a win-one-for-Bobby movement.

What Edgy said about the Pods. They always seem to be a cupcake in the postseason.

I think I'll be rooting for the Reds to represent the NL ultimately.

Tomorrow is gonna be great baseball.
I'm rooting, of course, for the three-way tie and the 2 playoffs scenario.

Post season:
Rootin Phils 1st, as long as they run.
Pads if they advance past em. If San Diego goes down pretty much any team cept the Braves and Skanks. Twins, Reds or Giants, I dunno, I'll make it up as I go.
If its Atlanta vs. NY in the WS?, hmmmmmm....NY or NL?
I think I'm gonna want to see the Braves take the Yankees down.
The Yanks can suck Cox.

I see the Reds as the best chance to defeat Philly so I am rooting for them all-the-way.

Second choice is the Padres (no WS wins, ever) but they don't seem particularly capable of winning much. Although I guess their pitching could stay hot for a series or two.

I'd like to see this get resolved today; I want the Phillies eliminated as soon as possible, so I want to their potential opponent, whoever it is, to be well-rested.[/quote:3gr8r6j6]

I'm with you on this... but is it weird that I want the MFYs to hang around a bit for a more painful, LCS-ish exit?

Oh, I think an early pounding by a team with a fraction of their salary and a fraction of their coverage would make the point very nicely.

Not sure of you mean literal WS games or series, but the Tigers defeated the Pads 4 games to 1 in 1984.[/quote:oyvwq7z3]

I meant both, having forgotten that they won one game in '84. Rooting interest still holds though.

Braves assured of at least one more game.
Cox went to Wagner in the 8th w/a 4-run lead and men on but he threw gas on the fire and suddenly it was just an 8-7 lead.
But then he got the side in the 9th.

Braves can now do no worse than a WC tie

The SF-SD game is on the MLB network this afternoon.

After 3 scoreless, Giants pitcher Jonathan Sanchez tripled to deep right-center. He missed first base while running (no appeal), and a ground ball single by Freddy Sanchez scores him for the first run of the game.

Both NL West teams are rubbish. Even if the giants win, Lincecum's starting the playoff game against the Braves the Phils will kill them in a short series.

Interesting thought crossed my mind- if the Expos had a Willie Mays like player would the Nats have defecated on their history?

Who gives a defecation?

If the Giants win, there is no playoff game, and they host the Braves in game 1.

Damn. I hated the SF fans when I saw the Mets in SF this past July. I wanted the SOB that looked at me in my Mets gear who said "we don't want your kind here" to suffer. I now have to root for them against the Braves.

I'm sure some see Mel Ott, Bill Terry and Carl Hubbell's retired numbers, along with the McGraw and Mathewson name signs as defecation on the NY Giants' history.

That's at-worst stolen history. Not honoring the tributes that Raines, Staub, and Dawson earned from Montreal is sort of deleting history.

I'm assuming Spitter is referring to the Nats using 8 (Gary Carter), 10 (Andre Dawson, Rusty Staub) and 30 (Tim Raines) in circulation since the move from Montreal. Hence implying that the start of the franchise is 2005, not 1969.

Old Giant fans, as well as Dodger fans though, probably cringe when considering how both franchises honor players, seasons and moments (Dodgers celebrated the 55th anniversary of the 1955 champions this year) and consider that all worse than the Nats acting as if there were no Montreal Expos.

That's fair Edge, but I'm sure to an old Dodger or Giant fan its six of one=half dozen of the other and probably would prefer how the Ravens/Browns did it.

Shows you how much I've been paying attention to the nutspennant races. Being so close to happy baseball fans, it feels so weird.
