Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 I was against firing him because I think managers are often the scapegoat and usually get blamed for the sins of others -- like general managers. But I've turned on Jerry. It's just not working any more.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 I disagree. I think the ingredients of a winner are there.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 i think jerry is both unfairly looked at as the scapegoat for the mets' many woes, and a terrible manager of men and baseball games who deserves to be fired.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 At this stage of the 1990 season, the Mets had the exact record they do now: 20-22. At two games below .500, Davey Johnson was fired, and won a World Series and a division title for them, finishing first or second six years in a row.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 It let me vote again.lolWell, I think I'll keep him.Guess my comments were in another thread.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Ha, this thread is from May 21, just before the Mets turned it around.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 The only reason I'm at all in favor of keeping him is because it may spook the horses to dismiss him now.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 It seems that whenever we pound this drum, the Mets go on an eight-game winning streak.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 In lieu of-- or in addition to-- said win streak, I'll take a Jerry Manuel firing, in favor of, say, Oberkfell or Jauss.

Spuds Mackenzie with a probability chart over Lou Pinella.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Hard to believe that Lou Pinella will retire at seasons end..
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 This team plays in a metropolitan area with the largest Haitian population outside the island itself; somebody's got to know some voudan, right?

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 I'm sticking today's JoePet in this thread instead of in yesterday's IGT. The cartoon has more versatility than Jerry's bench.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 3-11 in walkoff games this year (as per Grimm in another thread). Also, the Mets are 46-63 in one-run games over his Met career.

What was it for Willie? For the Mets since their inception?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2010 Author Posted July 22, 2010 All-time Mets record in one-run games (regular and post season) is 1202 and 1311.With Willie Randolph as manager, they were 81-65.Under Jerry Manuel, they're 40 and 51.Here's the full list:Bamberger 28 44Berra 100 107Cubbage 1 4Frazier 32 41Green 77 93Harrelson 38 46Hodges 124 114Howard 23 16Howe 38 52Johnson 182 155Manuel 40 51McMillan 4 9Parker 1 2Randolph 81 65Stengel 69 115Torborg 26 40Torre 107 133Valentine 178 155Westrum 53 69
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Interesting. thanks.I maintain that jerry's a bad close game manager. He has had a top closer, excepting 2008, for his entire tenure, which you'd expect to help. Willie's numbers are probably largely reflective of how good the 2006 bullpen was. *shrugs*What'd you use to calculate this anyway? I was trying to find somewhere to do and and couldn't.
