Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Leaving today's game with injuries: Murphy (twisted ankle in a rundown between third and home) and Cora (plunked on the hip by Carpenter).
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Running is a baseball activity, right? What about running... in earnest?According to Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus, Carlos Beltran will begin running in earnest this weekend.Carroll describes this as a major test.Yes, but at what percentage of full strength is he? 70? 80? I MUST HAVE WEIGHTY-SOUNDING ARBITRARY NUMBERS!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 There's also some guy named Earnest who's going to be "running in carlos" today, but we don't really care about him.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 There's been an opening since Jim Varney died.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Luis Castillo has a barking calf, says Adam Rubin.Second baseman Luis Castillo, who stayed reasonably healthy while appearing in 142 games and batting .302 for the Mets last season, needs to sit out Fridays series opener against the Washington Nationals. Castillo said he felt a pull in his right calf muscle while stealing second base in the third inning on Opening Day, although he remained in that game. Manager Jerry Manuel indicated he planned to use Ruben Tejada at shortstop and Alex Cora at second base when right-hander Mike Pelfrey faces Nats right-hander Garrett Mock. Ive been feeling it for a couple of days, Castillo said. I need a day. Its not a big deal." Castillo also slid headfirst into first base Thursday to avoid a tag and pick up an infield single, stinging his left hand in the process. But the second baseman said that is a non-issue. I hit my hand a little bit, but Im OK, he said.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Meanwhile, while having his Honey Nut Cheerios, Pelfrey smiles a little. Then he remembers who's playing short, and the corners of his mouth fall gently back into place.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Manager Jerry Manuel indicated he planned to use Ruben Tejada at shortstop and Alex Cora at second base it feels like 2009 againfortunately, reyes played 9 innings at SS last night in a minor league game and is due back saturday!
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Per MetsblogAndy Martino of the Daily News says Carlos Beltran will not begin running tomorrow, as he was expected to.Martino says Beltran hasnt experienced any setbacks he just isnt ready yet.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 But Will Carroll told me he was earnest!I'VE BEEN BETRAYED BY A CENTER FIELDER FOR THE LAST TIME! I WILL NEVER LOVE A STRONG GAP DEFENDER AGAIN!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Hardly the first time that one of Will Carroll's scoops has proven to be less than scoop-tacular.

He's done very well over there so far.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Apparently Raul Valdes is being called up from AAA to replace Sean Green, who is going on the 15-day DL with a "small rib cage tear."I approve of any transaction that results in less Sean Green appearances.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 The guy did perfectly well last year.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Edgy DC wrote:The guy did perfectly well last year.Only within the confines of willful revisionism or kneejerk contrarianism did Sean Green (105 baserunners in 69.2 relief innings, including 9 hit batters) do perfectly well last year. He may not deserve the Schleprock treatment in which dark clouds automatically form over our heads at the first mention of him but he was quite streaky across 2009, the opposite of consistently good.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I assure you I practice no such thing. The kneejerk reaction is celebrating news of injury. Sure, he gave up his share. And he still got the last out enough to keep his ERA passable. But somehow Raul Valdes is a more heartening prospect? That's some pretty willlful thinking. Come on.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Good health is the most heartening prospect. Here's hoping Valdes's stay makes him hard to send back -- and a speedy recovery to Sean.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 ESPN New York reporting that Manny Acosta is on his way into town as a possible DL replacement for Igarashi.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Confirmed: Acosta is now a Met, Igarashi to the DL.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Just in time for Atlanta's visit this weekend.Los Bravos Zurdos will likely be drooling.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Did Parnell run over Manuel's dog or something?
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 To answer my own question: Parnell and Calero have been having trouble finding the strike zone so far, while Acosta has at least pitched well.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Dan Murphy played his first extended spring training game today. The whole question about what to do with him seems pretty moot. He's heading to the minors under any cirumstances for rehab and catch-up duty, and he has options, so he can stay there as long as necessary until the sitatuation presents itself.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 According to WFAN (or was it ESPN Radio?) earlier today, Green's injury has been re-diagnosed as a fracture.Later
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I hope Murphy plays multiple positions at AAA.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 CINCINNATI -- Kelvim Escobar will have surgery on Wednesday to repair a torn capsule in the front of his right shoulder, the Mets announced on Monday. There is no timetable for his return.I think you need to have a turn to have a return.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Also, Pelf underwent a "precautionary" (wary quotes mine) MRI on his shoulder, which apparently felt tight both before and after Saturday's start.Because the Mets were so close to New York, they sent him to the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan to receive a precautionary MRI.Pelfrey will throw his scheduled bullpen session on Tuesday and, barring any setbacks, will then start Friday in New York."It's nothing crazy," Pelfrey said. "It's just a little sore, a little tight."
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Yeah I was hoping that if we didn't discuss Pelfrey's shoulder we could pretend it was nothing just like him.
