MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Answer: 2009 Post Season Awards. But since the AL Gold Glove awards have been announced (see the YLDB thread) we might as well use this thread to discuss them.Later
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I don't know. Gold Gloves are self-perpetuating, so Santana and Wright might get theirs again.I doubt that the Mets will have a Silver Slugger. Naturally, the big awards, MVP, Cy Young, and ROY, are off the table this winter.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Question: What Won't Any Mets Get This Year?Swine Flu?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 As non self-perpetuating as I guess you can hope for this season.P: Adam Wainwright, StL (ending 18 years of Greg Maddux)C: Yadier Molina, StL (2nd)1B: Adrian Gonzalez, SD2B: Orlando Hudson, LAD (3rd)3B: Ryan Zimmerman, WASSS: Jimmy Rollins, PHA (3rd)OF: Matt Kemp, LADOF: Shane Victorino, PHA (2nd)OF: Michael Bourne, HOU
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Don't really have a defensive opinion on Wainwright - but am OK with any of the others aside from the usual hate crime of awarding three CFers
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I think they should elect an infield of four shortstops, just to be consistent.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Awards for Wainwright, Molina, Rollins, Victorino...what Mets fan wouldn't be thrilled?
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 (edited) I'm a little annoyed about Orlando Hudson. Dumb award nods-- and it is dumb, make no mistake, since the voting generally sucks year-to-year and this year's award really should probably be Utley's*-- give his agent grist for jacking up the price this offseason(I'm making a gargantuan presumption here about the Mets' moving Castillo). *Arguing FOR Chase F-ing Utley and Captain Intangibles in the same day. Has staring at the Fox logo for the last two weeks turned me into the Manchurian CranePooler? Edited November 11, 2009 by Guest

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2009 Author Posted November 13, 2009 As announced by AP. St. Louis Cardinals star Albert Pujols and New York Yankees infielder Mark Teixeira, the National and American League home run leaders, were among those chosen Thursday to receive Silver Slugger awards. The awards, instituted in 1980 to the best offensive player in each league at each position, are chosen by managers and coaches.American League winners were first baseman Teixeira, second baseman Aaron Hill of Toronto, shortstop Derek Jeter of New York, third baseman Evan Longoria of Tampa Bay, catcher Joe Mauer of Minnesota, designated hitter Adam Lind of Toronto, and outfielders Torii Hunter of Los Angeles, Ichiro Suzuki of Seattle and Jason Bay of Boston. In the National League, the winners were first baseman Pujols, second baseman Chase Utley of Philadelphia, shortstop Hanley Ramirez of Florida, third baseman Ryan Zimmerman of Washington, catcher Brian McCann of Atlanta, pitcher Carlos Zambrano of Chicago, and outfielders Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier of Los Angeles and Ryan Braun of Milwaukee.Longoria, Hunter, Bay, Hill, Lind, Zimmerman, Ethier and Kemp are first-time award winners. Pujols has won five Silver Sluggers, and Jeter and Utley have each claimed four apiece. The selections are based on a combination of offensive statistics, such as batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage of a player at each position. Managers and coaches are not permitted to vote for players on their teams. So, Kemp has a silver slogger and a gold glove.I wonder if he has steel balls, too.Later

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 It didn't figure to be a run-away year in RoY voting; no one outstanding candidate in either league but lots of good candidates.----1st2nd3rdPointsAndrew Bailey - Oak136588Elvis Andrus - Tex86765Rick Porcello - Det78564Jeff Neimann - TB-5621Gordon Beckham - ChiW-2410Brett Anderson - Oak-114Very unusual to have the votes spread out over as many as eleven players as in the NL with five different ones getting 1st place votes. TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 ROY Hallway is where fans would be able to reminisce about the awesome first seasons of Tom Seaver, Jon Matlack, Darryl Strawberry and Doc Gooden while waiting in line for the restroom.Of course Jackie Robinson, Don Newcombe, Joe Black and Jim Gilliam will ultimately be included as well.
