Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 A clever ruse by the Mets to keep Park in the rotation for three or four more miserable starts, helping sink the Phillies into the third place tar pit they deserve.

Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 That's a game that would've been great to be at. 1-0 is baseball at it's best.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 An old fashioned pitching duel. It's nice that Johan won this one.

Sorry. I'll get better once the Mets play a little better (I believe they'll get there), and Jerry stops being my worst enemy.

Unimpressed, Martin replied that the player sucks, and that he'll be hitting his usual .230 by season's end.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 By the way, Johan Santana is the NL Pitcher of the Month for the month of April.

soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I know the Met offense is sputtering night in and night out, but man a 1-0 game is a pretty cool thing. On the edge of your seat with every single pitch. I'll continue take a pitcher's duel over a slugfest any day. That kind of game is to me, what baseball was meant to be.-Was there last night for my first ever night game. Maybe its just me but the place seems a lot brighter than Shea was at night. Proud to say that I am now 1-2 at games at Citifield.-Yes it was ugly visor night-I do not recommend the Acela Club for dinner. Its a prix fixe kind of deal. $48 per person to start. $10 more per person if you want a seat that has views of the field. The prime rib is $5 extra. Side dishes are also $5 extra. The food isn't bad but the service is l-o-u-s-y. We sat at 5:30 and didn't walk out of there until 7:15, mostly due to waiting too long for food, drinks and the check.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Thanks for the heads up with the Acela Club , I was never going to go there but I'm definitely not now. Agree about a pitchers duel over a slugfest , that was a fun game to watch.Santana is a genius.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I think if you want to hang out there in bad weather or during a rain delay and just have a drink and watch the game its fine, but I won't have dinner there again any time soon.Too much good food to be had elsewhere in the park.Walked through the Caesar's Club on my way to my seats after dinner (I don't think my tix gave me access to it, but no one seemed to be checking). Nice, spacious but no views of the field! WTF? Are you coming to a game to watch the game on the field or are you coming to hang out in a bar and watch it on a flat screen? Why come and spend the $$ if you're going to spend your time in there? That I do not get.One other observation - Loud Phillie fans all over the place at the beginning of the game - didn't seem to notice or hear them as much after their team made 3 errors and blew the game. Strange.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Listening to Johan talk after the game last night I got the feeling that while he would like more offense he seems to know that when he pitches he's got to be great , it's like his burden and he's accepted it.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 What a great game. Between the Phillies propensity for comebacks, and Rodriguez's propensity for baserunners, I couldn't bear to watch the ninth inning. Instead, I watched the Celtics-Orlando game and kept flipping back to see the outs tick up on the scroll. Great job all around last night.Santana is really, really good.

Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Great, great game to be at. Santana's stuff just looked nasty (I think that's the hardest he's thrown this year--topping out around 95), and I don't think I'll ever forget Delgado's lumbering run from first. I was positive Werth was going to throw him out, but he inexplicably held on to the ball. It's like he thought it would be more sporting to give Delgado a head start or something. On the down side, Wright looked lost up there, and Reyes just can't buy a hit. He's been smoking the ball for days, and it's always right at someone.
