Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 New Herdsman comes on board. Welcome fringey dude Adam Pettyjohn. Adam is a serious AAA vet (been there since 2000) who has logged only 19 games in the bigs, 16 of those with 96-game-loser Detroit in 2001 and three more with Cincinnati last year. It's funny, he initially shot through the minors in two years, but then apparently he had colon surgery in 2002 and never was considered a prospect again. Last year, he led the International League in wins, but only got those three appearances as a reward. A lefty, he went Exeter High, but not that Exeter, rather the main high school in his home town of Exeter, California. He now lives in Visalia, Califronia, a dreamy place on the back of old Met baseball cards. Wife's name: Dee.Got time for The Sporting News? That's right, they still have non-fantasy journalism on occasion. If you do, read "The amazing story of Adam Pettyjohn," a drama in three parts."I'm just leaned over, and they're going to town on me."
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Wow, that name is a blast from the past.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Adam Pettyjohn, hurler of eight scoreless innings tonight against the Columbus Clippers. Seven strikeouts and no walks.

Why not promote the prospects now in the organization? If I were a reporter I would have called him out on that.Later
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I dn't see anything troubling there.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Neither do I. I see no harm in making a minor transaction to help your Triple A team.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Hey, if I were a AAA team, I'd want at least one decent AAA-quality player that my fanbase could rally around for years to come. I wouldn't want to be a revolving door only.

No need to speed up that process any.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 exactly, and I feel that jumping guys from AA straight to the majors is an example of that. I think there are some players at AA like Davis, Holt, Thole and Tejada who would benefit from some AAA seasoning.Of course, back to the issue, if those players show that they are ready for callup to NY, then it leaves Buffalo in the same situation. So, I guess I can come down strongly on both sides of ths one.Later
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I don't think there's any reason to think Davis, Holt, Thole and Tejada will all skip AAA, and if they do, you can bet that at least two of them will end up back there quickly enough.

I wouldn't want to be a revolving door only.[/quote:1i0tyedv]There's a lot of truth to that. How much the big league club cares about that, I don't know; but when I was in Rochester, guys like Jeff Manto and PJ Forbes and Calvin Pickering bordered on the legendary, and absolutely put butts in the seats. And Val's right -- if you're Dan Mason (then and now, the Rochester GM), as much control as you have (or don't) over your roster, you love having those guys in your lineup.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Part of the reason Omar was up there was to woo the Buffalo fans. The team isn't drawing, and there's some sentiment to drop the Mets in favor of a different Major League team when the current contract expires after the 2010 season.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 I'm watching the Bisons playing the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs tonight on the Lehigh Valley channel. 4-3 Herd in the 7th.Robinson Cancel had a passed ball that led to an Iron Pigs run. Fugly.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 Buffalo holds on against the Lehigh Valley to win 6-4 after Iron Pig David Newhan flies out to end the game.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Righthander Tobi Stoner is expected to join the Mets on Tuesday with the completion of Triple-A Buffalo's season. The 24-year-old Stoner, a 16th-round pick in 2006 out of Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia, went 7-7 with a 3.96 ERA in 16 starts for the Bisons. Stoner spent spring training with the Mets, but didn't appear in a Grapefruit League game because of shoulder difficulty. The injury didn't allow him to join Buffalo's rotation until June.Courtesy of The Buffalo News' Mike Harrington:* Buffalo's season ended today with a 3-0 loss at Lehigh Valley. The final record was 56-87 (one game not made up). It was the Bisons' worst record since a 55-89 mark in 1994, the final season of their Pittsburgh affiliation. They set a franchise record for home futility with a 29-43 record, but were 14-11 at home after the All-Star break.* Jesus Feliciano did not play today. He finished the season batting .311 with an International League-high 154 hits, fifth-most in Buffalo's modern era of Triple-A (dates to 1985).* The Bisons were 0-63 when trailing after eight innings, and 2-59 when trailing after seven innings.www.nydailynews.com/blogs/mets...l#ixzz0QTCjidM7I'm not sure that last item needed any bolding, but it sure is mind boggling.Welcome, Tobi.Later
