Anderson's been used already -- Sheffield, Castillo & Schneider are still on the bench.

Dusty bringing in Weathers (sometimes the weather brings in dust)

I have no problem with using Tatis, just not for Church.

Especially when you have Alex Cora, the pitcher etc. coming up.

Oh yeah, plus Reed (who pops out hitting for Castro)

Not exactly Jerry's best inning here...over-emphasizing the lefty-righty matchups and using two pinch hitters who are not as good at the plate as the guys they replaced.

On Edit: Then letting Alex Cora hit.

The Mets are down three runs going in to the seventh inning, based on your gut feeling, will they come back to win ...

No

Well, my point was... forget it.

For someone who seemed to emphasize how much he wanted to get away from l-r matchup-playing-- "guys who can just pitch," etc.-- he's done a LOT of it in this game.

ESPN can get Gary Sheffield, who was signed fifteen minutes ago, photoshopped into a Mets hat, but when I clicked onto the Cubs game the other day, Aaron Heilman, now TWO teams removed from his Metsdom, is still in a Mets hat.

Doesn't ESPN make enough money to hire some more graphics folks?

And could you imagine the boos that Sheffield would be hearing right now if this game was at Shea?

More like, "Sheff (shrug)."

On the other hand, seems to me that was Castillo's at-bat he just gave to Sheffield.

Absolutely. What does Sheffield give you there? Even a home run doesn't help you. You needed a baserunner.

Fuckin' hell, Jose.

Not watching-- question for anyone watching: is Cordero as dominant as the play-by-play is making him sound/look?

Except that the top of the lineup was coming up and no other logical place to PH Sheff.

Don't matter: K - K - K and we're not going 162-0 after all.

So, Sheff don't play. Or he gets used in extra innings. Big whoop.

First loss of the season is always the toughest. I'm glad it came after two wins though. All I ever ask is that the first loss not be before an off-day.

But he's been a better OBP man than Castillo over the years (and even recently) so it's not like he's an all-or-nothing guy who Jerry would be wasting by not saving him for a power spot that'll probably never come up.
I'd rather go down using him and sitting Castillo than the other way around.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that recent history tells us otherwise.

Luis Castillo reached at a .362 clip against righties last year, Gary Sheffield at .330.

The best argument for Sheff is that Cordero is a rightie who is more effective against lefties than righties. But Sheffield is rusty and admittedly not in shape. He saw nothing but fastballs and looked at three strikes without taking a single cut.

I'm dubbing it the most depressing at-bat of the year.

Good IGT, peeps. I taped the games both last night and the night before and didn't start them til about 8:30. The game w/ Pelfrey the night before felt like it was being played in drying cement and I was really hoping for a crisp, 2 hour and 20 minute game last night. A couple hours and 5 walks later, I was asleep on the couch like a baby.

Ollie.

I totally think his all or nothing work rate in the WBC & spring set him back tons, and am pretty optimistic that he'll get shit straightened out somewhat with a couple more outings.

Hopefully.

Maybe.
