Per Adam Rubin's blog:
- Fernando Tatis signed a one-year deal to return to the Mets in 2009

Also, Matt Wise, Oliver Perez & Damion Easley filed for free-agency on the first day eligible.

Tatis for one year? sounds perfect to me. I hate long-term deals for non-stars and love 1-year deals for potentially good spare parts.

fine with me, its not my money.

since its not my money i prefer big $$ deals to long-term deals, because the latter have a much bigger chance of the Mets being stuck with a liability on the roster beyond the current season (see: Castillo, Bonilla)

Good signing, low-risk. I just hope he fully recovers from his shoulder injury by spring.

Is that the going rate for journeymen bench players these days? What I wouldn't have done to be just a mediocre ballplayer.

I know! I remember sitting in a doctor's waiting room a few years ago and reading an article about how mediocre retired players are living a life of ease with the millions that they've earned.

One player spotlighted in the story was Mark Clark.

I read that too.
Clark never has to work again and spends his days hunting and/or golfing.

Considering that the min wage is almost 400K these days a vet getting $1.7 isn't crazy and doesn't prevent them from persuing other options or lock them into keeping him as a starter.

Mets officially picked up Delgado's option today.

Most boring "Rico Brogna, Good Fit" entry ever.

I'm glad the Mets have Tatis in the fold for next season. The terms sound reasonable to me. Good signing.

Now he can pony up for a snazzy new organ for that church he built.

Only problem with Tatis is his last name puts me in mind of Tater Tots and boy I could really go for some Tater Tots now.

Just to be clear, I have no problem with the signing, it's just nice work if you can get it.
