seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 John Gibbons becomes the third manager to be fired this week, and he's replaced by... Cito Gaston!
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Jays fans ought to be hoping that Gaston isn't the second coming of Art Shell.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 ]Gaston, who has been special assistant to the president and CEO, had a 681-635 record as manager during his earlier stint. Joining his staff will be first base coach Dwayne Murphy, third base coach Nick Leyva and hitting coach Gene Tenace.Wait a minute! I thought Nick Leyva bolted from the Kingsport Mets to take a job with the Mariners! Did he turn around and quit Seattle the very next day to take a job with Toronto?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 He stabbed the Mets and Mariners in the back!
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Fired him in mid-day? WHERE'S THE OUTRAGE???

nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 canadian media doesnt jump overboard about anything sports related.the mets could have given willie notice that he wouldnt be retained when his contract was up and they'd still get fried by the tabloids
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 That report I quoted was unsure where Leyva would end up, and I guess they just assumed that Leyva's new position was triggered by the M's cleaning house. They made clear that they didn't know where he was going. There certainly are worse things than waking up with a job in Kingsport and going to bed with a job in Toronto.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 According to the Rockies broadcast booth, this is the first time since 1991 that 3 managers have been fired in one week.
