About 6 years too late!

He's a LH hitter, I suppose I'd be worried if I was Anderson?

Trot grew up a Mets fan, I read once. Was hooked by the 86ers.

I think Omar said they got him for cash (or a bag of something) and it
sounded to me like this is one of those get a guy like him into the club-
house thing bbbyyy.

We'll see. I think a bunch of us were banging his drum 4-5 years ago.

I had totally lost track of him, had to look up where he was.

My memory of him is a strict platoon guy, killed RHPs got killed by LHPs.
OK fielder, so-so speed.

Christopher Trotman Nixon (he's the one!!)
34 y/o, was a #1 (7th overall) draft pick of the BoSox in 1993.
Was forever linked to the Mets in trade rumors around 2000 or so.

The other story I remember about him was that he had a child born on 9/11/01 and the events of the day threw a wrench into his travel plans.

In the key playoff game against the Yanks (the one that the manager got fired for bad bullpen decisions) Nixon caused that loss.
If Trot doesn't misjudge Jeter's fly ball, then turn the wrong way turning it into a "double", Pedro is in the clubhouse smoking a vctory cigar and the Red Sox continue on instead of the Yanks.
IIRC the fans on the SOSH* website were really down on Trot after that game.
I wonder what Pedro will think of this acquisition.

Joins the fraternity of Presidential Mets, providing he gets voted in by Claudell Washington, Stanley Jefferson, the Taylors (Billy, Chuck, Hawk, Ron, and Sammy), the Jacksons (Al, Darrin, and Roy Lee), Brian Buchanan, the Johnsons (Ben, Bob, Bob, Howard, Lance, and Mark), the Wilsons (Mookie, Paul, Preston, Tom, and Vance) and Gary Carter.

Assuming I didn't forget anybody like President Schmelz (very unsafe assumption), he'd be the 24th Presidential Met, one short of a roster.

On the other hand, I can't imagine he's happy with Fernando Tatis' outfielding.

Pedro:

Pedro Martinez's initial reaction to learning his team had traded for Nixon: "Oh, good! Welcome aboard!" Martinez, who spent several seasons with Nixon in Boston, had plenty to say about the acquisition.

When asked about Nixon's demeanor, Martinez joked: "Quiet. Gamer. Doesn't say much. Very aggressive, as you can say, on the field. ...Very good person, he just doesn't say much. ...He's got that little bull-face. He can be a little crazy. I suggest you really find a moment to talk to him to really find out. Some people called him the 'snapper.' ...He looks like a little grouch all of the time. Other than that, he's a great person."

...

"I'll tell you what," Martinez said. "He can play for my team any day."

Playing for the B-Mets this year... and ready to be the 25th... Harry Obama.

Who does he bump from the 25-man roster?

I would have thought he'd replace Alou (on the DL again) but they promoted Cancel to take Moises' spot.

I think I'd send Cancel right back down again to make room for Nixon.

So, when are we going to trade for Griffey? Seems like we need another injury prone OF'er because we can't get enough of em. Maybe we can convince Shawn Green to resign with us?

sick of these moves.

What kind of deals? It's their first trade since the Santana deal on February 2. We don't even know what's been given up.

I mean, I guess you're sick of those kind of players. Though I don't know if he's been injured enough to qualify as prone, he's certainly on the other side of 30. But they probably weren't going to go out and get Jay Bruce under any circumstances.

He'll be what he'll be. I think any real outfielder who has hit like an outfielder to knock our three infielders currently playing outfield down a notch on the corner outfield depth chart is welcome --- if not the most welcome thing in the world.

Plus, you know, he's publickly called A-Rod a clown when the Rod made claims of having better workout dedication than anybody else. And you want fire? Nixon got ejected from a game for arguing while he was on the disabled list. (Of course, yeah, in order to pull that feat off, you have to be on the disabled list, which partially defeats the point. OK, more than partially, but nobody's perfect.)

I believe that came on a disputed home run call while Nixon was in Boston (another one which replays proved to be an actual home run).

Ridiculous statement. We are short on major league hitters. We just got one for basically nothing. Be happy.

It's perhaps generous to call Nixon a "major league hitter" given that he 1. Couldn't get a job with a team this year and 2. Was acquired from an AAA team.

(Granted, he's more of a major league hitter than, say, Nick Evans)

Posted

he was decent as recently as 2006, so after 1 bad year he's no longer "a major league hitter"?
who would you have preffered the mets pick up for free?

Posted

Nixon was seen during the entire DH being on the dugout front step and the first guy leading the charge congratulating everyone coming in.

A little too Jeter-esque if you ask me.

As I tell my co-worker every time, just because I give you a softball, DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY!

Okay, I don't yell though. =;)

sw17: >>>He leaves it on a tee every single time, doesn't he<<<

Leaves the ball and then hands ya the club.

No - you're giving us a poisonous association with our new Met who has done nothing worthy of it.
