Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 A top view of the bunt that I got on Schneider's case about was more like 3 yards down the 3rd baseline, and a harder looking play than the deceiving front view.So I apologize to Mr Schneider.
Guest holychicken Guests Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Christopher Lloyd drives in Reyes to win it! WOOT!I happy for the win. . . but that was a freaking gut wrenching game. So many wasted opportunities (especially by Beltran), weak offense and to have Heilman crap the bed again is not all that comforting. We were also extremely lucky that the phils went 0-12 w/ RiSP.Oh well, I will sleep well tonight.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Christopher Lloyd? Not getting the reference.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Missed this game on the net while Ms. Lunch did the taxes. Great game, offense drives me crazy, Reyes was out, bullpen was terrific.
Guest Triple Dee Guests Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Not to try to influence anybody's Schaefer votes or anything, but Feliciano and the Show pitched huge innings in relief facing the heart of the Phils line-up. Beltran is as frustrating as hell to watch, sometimes.
Guest Number 6 Guests Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Dear Willie and RP:I'm sorry for being mean to you the other day. You know that Show is a specialist at this point, and what Jorge Sosa's ideal role is. You have the appropriate amount of faith in Joe Smith, and you know the best times to use him. You know your pen. I'll try to lay off you for a while now, although I can't really promise anything.Your friend,Number 6

Farmer Ted Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 The Philly Press is taking swipes at the Phillies players already. Tongue-in-cheek, perhaps. But probably not warranted this early in the season in the morning rags.Morning Bytes: Phillies need to relax, smile, shaveBy Frank Fitzpatrick Inquirer Sports ColumnistHere are some early-season observations about some Phillies: Jimmy Rollins: If he's hurt, they're dead. Suggestion: Don't come back until the ankle's OK.Shane Victorino: Maybe he ought to change his first name to Chase. He's got six hits and just two walks in 37 at-bats and seems intent on flailing at anything in the ballpark's zip code. Suggestion: Bunts, ground balls.Chase Utley: He remains an offensive machine, but now we know why he's named Chase. It's what he does after ground balls bound away. Suggestion: left field when Pat Burrell departs.Ryan Howard: He's lunging overanxiously at the ball again, displaying more impatience than Larry Bowa at the ballet. Suggestion: Relax, you're making $10 million.Pat Burrell: There is nothing to complain about here except his speed, which approximates Jackie Gleason's. Amazingly, this Travis Lee disciple even showed some emotion last week, pumping his fist after a double. Suggestion: Smile.Geoff Jenkins: He seems like a good pickup, though his arm looks weaker than Charlie Manuel's grammar. Suggestion: Shave.Pedro Feliz: Seems like the tools are there, but, frankly, if he doesn't get his act together soon, Philly fans are going to make him feel more like Pedro Triste. Suggestion: Learn to hit a breaking ball.Carlos Ruiz: We like him behind the plate, but he's another guy who needs to mix in an occasional walk. He seems to have warning-track power everywhere but Citizens Bank Park. Suggestion: Shorten the stroke.Eric Bruntlett: He apparently got infield tutoring from Roberto Duran. Suggestion: Play deep.Brett Myers: His woe-is-me body language mirrored his two disappointing starts. Suggestion: Calm down, slow down. Jamie Moyer: With just a little help from umpires, this mound Methuselah can still get hitters out. Suggestion: Try the early-bird special at the Melrose Diner.Kyle Kendrick: I haven't seen this much nibbling since my rabbit died. Suggestion: Don't ask about Marty Bystrom.

Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 I don't get the Duran reference. He wants "no mas" to do with grounders? If you're going to reach back over twenty years for a reference, make it stick. I mean, that's so Mork-calling-Orson.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 ]I don't get the Duran reference. He wants "no mas" to do with grounders?Hands of Stone The line about Utley's defense is the only one that really means anything (assuming that he's being totally serious). He did look a bit slow on some grounders over the last few days, although I never thought of him as a defensive detriment before. But if he truly is on the road to becoming poor enough to consider a switch to a corner OF position that's something that'll diminish his value a bit even though he's got enough bat to play anywhere for the time being.
